The Widow’s Fate They Chose Was My Escape Plan Chapter 31

Before the hearing ended, the special committee passed a resolution suspending the chairman’s access to any internal Quinn Industries information.

He slammed the door on his way out.

Watching him retreat, Eleanor said coldly, “A trapped beast is the most dangerous. He won’t give up.”

She was right.

That afternoon, several New York media outlets ran stories claiming I had used my marriage to secure Quinn family funds and was operating a caregiving agency without proper qualifications.

Some even dredged up my childhood abduction, implying I had ties to criminal groups.

Before long, reporters crowded the front of the agency.

Several clients’ families called to say that if there was a problem with the license, they would have to terminate our services.

Holding the phone, I felt a chill spread through my palm.

I had built this agency from nothing. I had personally sorted every packet of supplies and stayed with many elderly clients through their hardest nights.

If the chairman wanted to attack Quinn Industries, I could treat it as business.

But he knew those clients depended on stable care, and still he used them as leverage to force me to bow.

Sebastian reached for his coat.

“I’ll have the Quinn lawyers hold a press conference.”

“No need.”

I stopped him and walked out the door alone.

The camera flashes erupted.

“Ms. Hart, was your nursing assistant qualification bought with Quinn money?”

“Did you use Sebastian Quinn’s impaired judgment to obtain investment?”
