I Died In His Arms Now I’ll Marry Another Chapter 11
Once King Roland had taken his seat, the charity soccer match was ready to begin.
The air-conditioning in the stadium was a little cold. I heard Queen Evelyn cough, so I took off my light jacket and handed it to her.
The players were divided into two teams.
Before the match began, a player on the left team twisted his ankle during a warm-up. The Royal Healer ruled that he couldn’t play, so the host had to call for a substitute.
Paige Linton, one of the girls I’d tricked earlier, laughed.
“Why not let Laurel do it? She’s dressed so conspicuously—wasn’t she here to pick a husband anyway?”
“If she wins, maybe she can ask King Roland to announce her engagement on the spot.”
I nodded in all seriousness.
“Paige, you’ve finally given me a good idea.”
I stood up and walked to the edge of the field.
“I’m willing to fill in.”
A wave of surprise rippled through the crowd.
Queen Evelyn looked worried.
“Laurel, have you had formal training?”
Emilia glanced at Paige, then unexpectedly spoke up in my defense.
“She’s had to compete with me in everything since we were little. If I liked soccer, there’s no way she hasn’t trained. The one you should worry about is Paige.”
It took a certain courage to keep provoking someone famous for holding grudges.
