I Died In His Arms Now I’ll Marry Another Chapter 16

“Aren’t we going to be married? Helping each other is only natural.”

He stilled slightly.

“Is that the only reason?”

I didn’t understand what he meant and looked at him, confused.

“All right. I must be overthinking it.”

With a hint of helplessness, Callum held out his hand to me.

“It’s late. I’ll take you home.”

After a moment’s hesitation, I placed my hand in his cool palm.

He helped me to my feet and draped his coat over my shoulders.

A faint medicinal scent surrounded me.

I frowned suddenly.

That scent… it was familiar.

I had definitely met Callum before.

The car moved slowly through the rain-slicked capital, and I couldn’t stop staring at him.

Callum had his eyes closed, resting, but suddenly he smiled.

“If you keep looking at me like that, I’m going to get the wrong idea.”

I quickly looked away.

“Have we met before?”

He opened his eyes, and my reflection appeared in their light brown depths.

“So you finally remembered?”

I honestly shook my head.

Callum suddenly began coughing violently, an unnatural flush rising on his pale face.

“Don’t get worked up.”

I hurried to get him water.

But he caught my wrist and pulled me closer.

That familiar medicinal scent was suddenly overwhelming.

There was still a watery haze in Callum’s eyes from the coughing, and the corners were red. He was obviously frail, yet when he pressed close, there was an undeniable strength I couldn’t break free from.

He smiled slowly, a trace of exasperation in his tone.

“Laurel, are you trying to kill me with frustration?”
