I Died In His Arms Now I’ll Marry Another Chapter 15

After Adrian left, I stood alone by the bridge for a while.

My legs ached badly. When I looked down, I saw the skin was already swollen, marked not only by the injuries from today’s falls but also by old scars of varying depths.

Werewolves healed quickly, but wounds torn open again and again over the years still left their traces.

I didn’t call a Healer. I went straight back to the guest room and filled the bathtub with hot water.

The scalding water enveloped my body, and sharp pain flared through my injuries.

I closed my eyes and, without realizing it, fell asleep.

I dreamed of my mother again.

Her face was pale and bloodless. Both her hands were clamped around my throat.

“Why did you give Dominic to Emilia?”

“Why would you marry a cripple from a fallen family?”

“You lost! You lost again!”

Tears streamed down my face. I couldn’t speak. Even breathing became a struggle.

Then, in the darkness, a touch of warmth landed on my face.

“Crying this hard—what have you been through?”

Someone wiped away my tears, their voice a low, soothing murmur.

When I woke, my head was splitting.

The figure by the window gradually came into focus.

Callum sat beneath the reading lamp with a book in hand. The cool white light fell across his lashes, making him seem almost unreal.

Sensing my gaze, he closed the book.

“Laurel.”

He explained, “I brought you some medicine, but you didn’t answer when I knocked. Your assistant used the spare access card to open the door and found you slipping under the water.”

“Do you still feel unwell?”

I shook my head.

“Thank you for saving me.”

Callum smiled.

“No need. You helped me today, too, didn’t you?”

So he knew why I had made that team captain kneel.
