From Now On I Grow Toward Spring Chapter 11

The HR manager looked at him, surprised.

“Matteo, didn’t you know? Talia already resigned. The reassignment notice is void.”

“What? That’s impossible.”

Frowning, he stared at the resignation letter HR handed him.

The paper was light, but it felt impossibly heavy in his hands.

He didn’t know how he made it home.

As he punched in the key code, he remembered that the current passcode was Sofia’s birthday.

He had changed it from our wedding anniversary because she could never remember the old one.

The flowers on the balcony, the color of the living room curtains—they had all gradually been replaced with things Sofia liked.

He didn’t know when it had started, but his home had less and less of me in it.

Matteo closed his eyes, stood there for a few seconds, then pushed open the master bedroom door.

“Talia?”

No one.

The room was the same, but it felt hollow.

His gaze landed on the glass cabinet, and his pupils contracted.

Beside the marriage certificate sat a printed divorce agreement.

I had already signed it.

Only then did he finally understand that I hadn’t just been angry.

It wasn’t until dark that my parents came home with Sofia.

The moment they walked in, they saw Matteo sitting on the living room floor.

The room was a mess.

“Talia’s still not back?” my mother asked, her tone laced with disapproval.

“Matteo, why are you on the floor?”

Sofia walked over to help him up, but she recoiled at the sight of his bloodshot eyes.

Matteo had been sitting there so long his body was stiff. When he spoke, his voice was hoarse.

“Talia’s gone.”

“She really wants to divorce me.”
