From Now On I Grow Toward Spring Chapter 12

My mother snatched the divorce agreement from the floor and flipped through it, her face a mask of shock.

“How could she divorce you over something so small?”

As she spoke, she pulled out her phone to call me, only to realize I had already blocked her number.

“How could this happen? Talia won’t even acknowledge me as her mother anymore?”

My father was so angry his chest heaved. He pressed a hand to his forehead, his breathing growing ragged.

Sofia panicked. “Is Dad’s blood pressure acting up again? Where’s his medicine?”

My mother panicked, too. “Talia always sorted his pills into the pillbox and brought them to us. How should I know where they are?”

The whole house descended into chaos.

Then someone murmured softly, “If only Talia were here.”

Matteo lowered his head. After a long silence, he finally said, “I’ll find her.”

“I won’t agree to the divorce.”

My mother held on to my father, her voice anxious as she urged Matteo on.

“That child—how could Talia just leave without a word…”

After searching for three days, Matteo finally got a lead on my whereabouts.

He grabbed his car keys and headed for the door.

Sofia caught his arm, her voice thick with grievance. “Matteo, my birthday party is tomorrow. You promised you’d come with me to try on my dress today.”

He pulled his arm free, his voice sharp with irritation. “Sofia, I don’t have time. Go by yourself.”

At the mention of the birthday party, he paused.
