From Now On I Grow Toward Spring Chapter 13
All the things I had never had, Sofia received every single year.
Sofia looked like she wanted to say more, but my mother pulled her back.
“Sofia, stop it. We finally have news about Talia. Let Matteo go find her.”
These past few days, my mother had been caring for my father alone while his blood pressure remained dangerously high. She looked exhausted, her face drawn and tired.
Then Matteo seemed to remember something, and his gaze dropped to Sofia’s ears.
“Sofia, take those earrings off.”
“Give them back to Talia.”
Austin.
I hadn’t expected that, five years later, I would return to the one place I had wanted to be most.
Ethan, the man who had sent me that original offer letter, was now a partner at the firm.
He showed me around the office, then handed me a stack of files.
“These are some of the cases I’ve handled over the years. You can look them over.”
“Have you decided what area of law you want to focus on?”
I took the files and said quietly, “Family law.”
He paused, then patted my shoulder gently.
“Have you been okay these past few years?”
I smiled. “That’s all in the past now.”
“I just suddenly realized that so many women are overlooked in their marriages and families. I want to help them.”
In a way, I wanted to help the person I used to be.
Ethan nodded, approval in his eyes.
“I was right about you. You’re still the same Talia.”
As he spoke, he handed me a gift box.
“I remember your twenty-eighth birthday was a few days ago. Since you’re officially joining us, I got you a present. Go on, open it.”
