My Fiancé Chose Her So I Chose Myself Chapter 14
On the third day after negotiations stalled, Brooke found me at my hotel.
Somehow, she had gotten my schedule and intercepted me in the lobby.
Three years ago, she had let herself into my apartment as if she had every right. Now, she just looked worn out, her coat old and the corners of her handbag frayed.
“Nat.” She used my childhood nickname softly, and her eyes reddened at once.
I sat in the lobby café and didn’t invite her to join me.
“What is it?”
Brooke wiped at her tears.
“I came to apologize. I was so immature back then, and Jenna… she lied to me the whole time.”
For the next ten minutes, she laid every problem of the last three years at Jenna’s feet.
Jenna had been manipulating both Travis and Evan, and had even gotten Brooke to start paying her bills.
“She ruined our family,” Brooke said through her tears. “Evan hasn’t spoken to our father in years because of her. All she does is take from people.”
She stepped a little closer.
“Nat, can you forgive me? Come back and talk some sense into Evan, and Travis, too. Because of Jenna, they’re about to lose the company and their territory seats.”
I set down my coffee cup.
“You didn’t come here because you finally understand what you did wrong.”
Brooke’s expression stiffened.
“You came because Jenna started spending your money, and now it’s affecting your life. You need someone else to come and solve her for you.”
