He Asked For Space I Left With His Baby Chapter 08

He Asked For Space I Left With His Baby Chapter 08

I stared at my phone, already trying to come up with a polite, professional explanation.

Before I could type a single word, another message arrived.

*Were you trying to tell me something?*

My phone buzzed again a moment later.

It was a bank alert. Someone had wired me money.

My eyes widened. It was a five-figure sum. I froze.

Then another text appeared.

*That wasn’t a mistake.*

*Come to a wedding with me this Saturday in Boston.*

*Some distant cousin is getting married.*

*My family will spend the entire day asking why I’m still single.*

*I’d rather bring a fake date than listen to it.*

*You are single, right? Think of the money as hazard pay.*

I laughed. Unfortunately, Mia’s wedding was the same day.

For the first time in our friendship, loyalty was at war with a small fortune.

I stared at the amount on the screen. It would cover my rent for months, maybe more.

With a sigh, I typed my reply.

*Thank you, Mr. Sterling.*

*But my best friend is getting married back home on Saturday.*

*There’s nowhere else I’d rather be.*

As soon as I hit send, I could practically hear the money vanishing.

The wedding preparations started at nine in the morning. I arrived at the bridal suite right on time.

Mia was already in front of the mirror, surrounded by makeup artists, hairstylists, and the beautiful chaos of a wedding day.

“Nora. I knew you’d be the first one here.”

When she finally turned to face me, the words caught in my throat.

The woman who had shared so many ordinary days with me was now sitting in a wedding gown, about to start a whole new life.

My eyes started to burn. Mia noticed immediately.

“Don’t you dare cry,” she said softly, taking my hand. “If you start, I’ll start.”
