He Asked For Space I Left With His Baby Chapter 09
She gestured to the flowers on the vanity.
“I picked those lilies of the valley because they reminded me of you.”
Mia nodded at the bouquet on the table. “I was hoping you’d finally bring Roman today.”
With a smile, she added, “I really want you to catch the bouquet.” So that’s why she’d been so insistent I bring him.
I glanced at the flowers and gave a quiet laugh. “Then I guess you’ll have to find a new target.”
Mia rolled her eyes. “Nope. I’m already making the sacrifice of getting married. You think you’re getting out of this that easily? You’re next.”
At last, a sense of calm settled over me. My best friend was getting married.
The ceremony was held at a sprawling country estate.
By the time guests started to arrive, my nerves had returned.
I slipped out into the gardens for a quiet moment.
I had barely caught my breath when I saw him.
Roman.
He walked toward me as if nothing had happened.
“You said Mia wanted everyone to bring their partners. I cleared my schedule.”
He brushed a stray lock of hair from my face. “When are you coming home?”
I stepped back, out of his reach.
“This is Mia’s wedding. I am not doing this today. If you want to talk, you can wait until after the ceremony.”
His jaw tensed, but after a long moment, he stepped aside.
Later, the officiant handed the microphone to the groom.
“If you could make one promise to your bride, what would it be?”
Smiling at Mia, he said, “Everyone calls you the strongest person they know. You never ask for help. You handle everything on your own.”
His voice softened. “But I want to ask one thing of you. When life gets heavy, please don’t carry it all by yourself. Let me shoulder some of it for you.”
“You don’t have to be strong every single second of every day. You can rely on me.”
“Wake me up at three in the morning. Call me when you’re scared. Tell me when you’ve had a terrible day. I want to be the person you come home to.”
