Back in Seattle, Marcus stared at the failed message notification on his phone.
Six o’clock. Hotel lobby.
The four of them waited for half an hour, but there was no sign of Elena.
“What time is it?” Tyler checked his watch. “She’s never done this before, no matter how mad she got.”
Marcus dialed her number again.
The call went straight to voicemail.
“She blocked me.”
He gave a cold laugh and tossed his phone onto the sofa.
“She has the nerve to block my calls now?”
Madison lowered her voice.
“Marcus, do you think Ellie found out we actually booked the flight for tomorrow morning? Is that why she’s so angry?”
“What right does she have to be angry?”
Daniel frowned.
“She’s either been silent or making everyone miserable this whole trip. Madison wanted to come to Seattle, so I changed the ticket. Let’s go. We’ll get dinner. If Elena wants to sulk in the hotel, let her.”
They were all convinced I was just trying to make them chase me down.
The next morning, they checked out at their leisure. The front desk clerk informed them I had left the previous afternoon.
