They Canceled My Ticket I Canceled Them Chapter 08

That was when Marcus’s expression finally changed.

“You’re telling me she checked out before two p.m. yesterday?”

The clerk remained polite.

“Yes, sir. Ms. Preston settled her room charges herself.”

On the flight back to Chicago, the four of them barely spoke.

Marcus stared out the window, a knot of unease tightening in his gut.

In the past, no matter how much they ignored me, the most I ever did was go silent. I had never left early. I had never cut off all contact.

Tyler was the first to break the silence.

“She’s probably already back at the apartment. We’ll walk in, and she’ll give us another speech about how we’ve all hurt her feelings.”

Marcus said nothing.

Hours later, they opened the apartment door.

I wasn’t there. There was no dinner waiting for them.

Marcus stopped cold as he went to take off his shoes.

The pair of flats that always sat beside his dress shoes was gone.

He rushed into the bedroom.

The closet doors were open. The side that used to hold my clothes was empty.

The vanity was cleared. Nothing was left.

“What happened?” Daniel came into the room, Tyler right behind him.

It was Madison who noticed the documents on the dining table.
