His Love Is Not Visible Chapter 22

His Love Is Not Visible Chapter 22

I stared at the screenshot for a long time.

Garrett called immediately.

I stepped out of the ballroom to answer. The night breeze was cool against my skin.

“Laurie.”

His voice was rough.

“I had the carrier pull the detailed bill for that month.”

“Mm-hm.”

“So?”

The other end of the line was quiet for a long moment.

“It wasn’t a missed call.”

“Someone answered it, then deleted the record from my phone.”

I had guessed as much a long time ago.

After the call connected, I’d heard someone ask if Garrett was there to pick up Vanessa.

He had later admitted that Vanessa had been using his phone.

The answer wasn’t hard to find. I just no longer cared enough to look for it.

“Garrett, what exactly do you want from me with this screenshot?”

“It’s not what you think.”

He denied it at once.

“I just thought you had a right to know.”

“I’ll get the truth from her.”

I lowered my head and nudged a loose pebble with my shoe.

“That’s between you and her.”

“Laurie, if I’d taken that call that night—”

“There is no ‘if.’”

I cut him off.

The ballroom door opened, and a coworker stuck her head out, calling me back in for a group photo.

I lifted a hand to signal I’d be right there.

“Garrett, I called 911 first, and I signed the surgical consent form myself.”

“That night, I handled everything on my own.”

“That phone call wasn’t the only reason we got divorced.”

On the line, all I could hear was the sound of him holding his breath.

Still, I said the last part.

“You can find out the truth.”

“But don’t use the truth as an excuse to get back together.”

“We’re over.”

I hung up.

My coworker leaned out the door again.

“Boss, you’re the only one missing.”

I smiled and jogged back into the ballroom.

The camera counted down from three. When the shutter clicked, I was standing in the center of my team.

This time, no one could push me to the margins of my own life.
