His Love Is Not Visible Chapter 23

Garrett asked Vanessa to meet him at a coffee shop.

Two phones lay on the table.

One was his. The other displayed the carrier record he had sent to Laura.

When Vanessa saw the screenshot, the smile slowly faded from her face.

“It’s been so long. Why are you checking on this now?”

He looked at her.

“You answered Laura’s call that night.”

It wasn’t a question.

Vanessa lifted her coffee cup. Her fingers rested on the rim for a long moment without moving.

“You’d been drinking that night.”

“People kept calling you. I didn’t want them disturbing you.”

“So you answered for me?”

“No one said anything on the other end.”

Vanessa finally looked up.

“I said hello a few times, and there was no response, so I hung up.”

His gaze went cold.

“Then you deleted the record.”

She pressed her lips together.

Suddenly, he remembered that snowy night.

Vanessa had walked over with his phone and said Ryan and the others were pushing him to go to the next bar.

He had asked if anyone had called for him.

She had said no.

The next day, he went home.

Laura wasn’t waiting for him like she used to, and the bedroom light was off.

At the time, he had even felt a sense of relief.

He’d thought she had finally stopped fighting with him over the hotel photos.

Only now did he understand that there had been no one left waiting for him behind that door.
