His Love Is Not Visible Chapter 36
I didn’t take it.
“Since the house is yours now, you should change the locks.”
His hand hung suspended in midair.
After a long moment, he drew it back.
“Laurie.”
“I keep thinking… if I had noticed earlier that you weren’t happy—”
“Garrett.”
I cut him off with a smile.
“It’s not that you didn’t notice.”
“I saw you picking Vanessa up at the airport.”
“I asked you about her outside the hotel.”
“When we fought, I cried in front of you.”
“After I was burned, I explicitly asked for a divorce.”
“I gave you plenty of signs.”
His eyes slowly reddened, but my tone didn’t change.
Understanding that comes too late can’t erase what happened.
In a low voice, Garrett asked, “Are you going to end up with Ethan?”
He had asked me that same question outside the courthouse. Then and now, I didn’t have an answer.
“Maybe I’ll fall for someone.”
“Maybe I won’t.”
“But you don’t need to wait for that answer.”
The boarding announcement sounded again.
I pulled up my suitcase handle.
“I have to get through security.”
He stepped aside.
“Have a safe trip.”
I had gone a few steps when I heard him call my name from behind me.
I turned back.
Garrett stood in the crowd.
“Laura.”
“I’m sorry.”
This time, he didn’t call me Laurie.
I gave him a small nod.
“I heard you.”
I accepted his apology. Nothing else changed.
