His Love Is Not Visible Chapter 35
After summer began, I ran into Garrett at the airport.
This time, I was the one traveling for work.
He had just returned from a trip.
We saw each other across the crowd.
He had lost weight. The moment he saw me, his expression shifted.
“Laurie.”
I stopped.
“Long time no see.”
“Long time no see.”
His gaze dropped to my suitcase.
“Where are you headed?”
“Boise.”
It was the same city he had gone to after his hospital stay. He thought of it, too.
“What time’s your flight?”
I told him.
An announcement called passengers to the security checkpoint.
After a brief silence, he asked, “How have you been?”
“Very well.”
It wasn’t just politeness.
I really was doing very well.
Work was busy, and the mortgage was its own pressure. I still had insomnia sometimes.
But every day when I woke up, I knew exactly why I was getting out of bed.
Garrett nodded.
“That’s good.”
He took a key out of his pocket.
It was the key to our old house. The house had gone to him in the divorce.
“I never changed the locks.”
“My mother should have brought you everything you left behind.”
