He Chose Another Heir Now He Wants Me Back Chapter 15

“Mom,” Ophelia said, going to the bedside, “I brought your favorite chicken noodle soup.”

Maria looked at her but said nothing.

Ophelia set the bowl down, then turned to Dante and forced a smile.

“I was rude downstairs. I didn’t realize your relationship with Elena. Please, come to a De Luca dinner sometime. Luca and I will host you properly.”

Dante’s gaze fell to the Rossi signet ring on her hand.

“If you’re wearing the Rossi ring, then invite me in the name of the Rossi family.” His tone was flat. “Don’t make decisions for two family heads at once.”

Ophelia’s fingers curled into her palm.

Dante had taught me in Paris not to watch expressions, but to watch eyes. Expressions could be practiced. Fear was much harder to hide.

Ophelia looked at him the way a mouse looks at a hawk.

Luca set down the thermal bags and stared at Dante.

“A word. Outside.”

“I can’t.” Dante didn’t even look at him. “I’m here with Elena.”

The air in the room tightened.
