He Protected My Baby’s Killer So I Left Him Chapter 11
Half a month later, a lawyer came to the apartment.
He brought a property settlement agreement.
The apartment was in Matteo’s name, but I had paid for the renovation and part of the down payment.
I wasn’t asking for the apartment.
I was only asking for my portion of the money to be returned, per the payment records.
The lawyer also set a box on the coffee table.
“Ms. Soleil asked me to return these.”
There was nothing particularly valuable inside.
Just everyday things they had left at my place over the years.
Leo’s wrist brace, forgotten in my car.
Marco’s work files, stored on my laptop.
The spare key to Nico’s apartment.
And the pair of bracelets Matteo’s mother had given me years ago.
Everything was packed neatly.
There was no letter, no goodbye.
Matteo dug through the box until he found a wedding schedule at the very bottom.
Every item on it had notes in my handwriting.
How the seating should be arranged.
What to serve our parents and the older relatives.
Leo doesn’t handle alcohol well—don’t let him drink too much before the ceremony.
Marco has a sensitive stomach—make sure there’s warm water at his table.
Nico doesn’t like attention—don’t force him to give a speech.
I had thought of everything to take care of them on my wedding day.
I just never imagined they would leave me alone in a hospital for Isabella.
Matteo looked up at the lawyer.
“How is she?”
“That is Ms. Soleil’s private information.”
“When is she coming back?”
“Ms. Soleil did not say.”
The lawyer paused.
“She only asked me to inform Mr. Matteo that once the funds are transferred, there will be nothing left to settle between you.”
Matteo followed him to the door.
“She sees ten years together as something that just needs to be settled?”
The lawyer didn’t answer.
