He Protected My Baby’s Killer So I Left Him Chapter 12

Three days later was the date our wedding had been scheduled for.

The hotel contacted Matteo to confirm the breakdown schedule.

He went to the ballroom alone.

The space that should have been filled with flowers now held only empty tables and chairs.

The staff was taking down the backdrop.

Our initials were still on it.

The manager came over, holding a clipboard.

“Ms. Soleil was very thorough with the cancellation.”

“She even returned the gifts she’d picked out for the four of you as groomsmen.”

Leo and the others arrived soon after.

No one spoke.

A few months ago, in this very room, they had argued over who would stand closest to me at the altar.

Matteo had laughed at them.

“It’s my wedding. Don’t try to steal the spotlight.”

Leo had shot back, “We’ve been with her for years. Of course we want to be there to see her get married.”

Now, on the day of the wedding, all four of them were here.

But the bride was gone.

Matteo sat before the empty stage until it was dark.

Then his phone suddenly rang.

He answered it in a single motion.

But it was the hospital’s billing department.

“Hello, are you the emergency contact previously listed for a Ms. Soleil?”

“There’s a refund due on one of her hospital charges. Please have the patient contact us to process it.”

Matteo’s grip tightened on the phone.

“Where is she now?”

The staff member paused.

“Ms. Soleil did not provide any family information during her stay.”

“But she did say one thing before she was transferred.”

“If you can’t reach her, just refund it to the original payment method.”

“She said she doesn’t want to come back for anything.”
