He Sold Me Into Slavery I Returned As Queen Chapter 10

Fog.

Even now, hearing that name made my fingertips tremble.

That was the slave name Greta had given me.

She’d said, “From today on, you’re Fog. Once fog lifts, no one remembers it was ever there.”

But I had remembered for fifteen years.

Lucian turned to the royal healer.

She stepped forward.

“Your Majesty, during the Queen’s examination, she was found to indeed bear the remnants of a crescent birthmark on her shoulder, a mole behind her ear, and a slave brand on her wrist.”

Alaric swayed on his feet.

Rosalie gripped the side of her skirt so hard her knuckles went white.

I loosened my cuff.

A wave of sharp, indrawn breaths moved through the hall.

Around my wrist ran a ring of old branding scars.

The mark was deep.

By the time I was branded, I had already been fed wolfsbane for two years, and the burn had never healed properly.

“This was branded on me at age ten by Stone Ridge Estate to stop slaves from escaping.”

Then I pulled my collar aside, exposing one corner of my right shoulder.

Only half the crescent birthmark remained.

The other half had been destroyed by a branding iron.

“The slave trader feared the Ironwood Pack would identify me by the mark, so she deliberately ruined it.”

Alaric could no longer stand. He collapsed to his knees on the stone floor.

“Ella…”

I didn’t look at him.

“Bring in Mara Quinn.”
