He Sold Me Into Slavery I Returned As Queen Chapter 11

Mara entered the royal hall with a medicine box strapped to her back.

She saluted the throne.

Lucian said, “No need for formality. Tell us what you know.”

Mara opened the box and took out a medical record book.

“In the winter of Frost Calendar Year Eight, I saved Her Highness in the plague shed at Greenriver Town.”

“She had a raging fever, wolfsbane buildup in her system, and both her healing and shifting abilities were suppressed. She had twenty-seven whip wounds, an old fracture in her wrist, and half her birthmark had been destroyed by a burn.”

“After she woke, she told me her name was not Fog.”

“She said her name was Ella Raine.”

Mara took a cloth-wrapped bundle from the box.

Inside was the other half of the moonstone token.

It matched the broken piece from my box perfectly.

Joined together, the wren crest and the name were finally complete.

Ella Raine.

Alaric stared at the birth token, tears streaming down his face.

“That’s your mother’s carving…”

I answered softly, “Yes.”

“On the first night after I was sold, Greta took my pendant, stripped off my cloak, and threw away my pouch.”

“I only managed to keep half of the moonstone token.”

At last, I looked at Alaric.

“Father, it’s not that I never thought of coming home.”

“But I heard the Ironwood Pack had already held a farewell rite for me and moved my name to the register of the dead.”

“You declared me dead.”

“After that, I no longer had a home to return to.”

Alaric lowered his head, weeping too hard to speak.

But Cedric suddenly said, “Even if you are Ella Raine, that still doesn’t prove I was the one who sold you.”

He looked at me, a last scrap of desperate hope in his eyes.

“You were under the effects of wolfsbane and sedatives. Your memory might not be reliable.”

“Maybe you resent me for not protecting you, and you mistook the real slave trader for me.”

I gave a small, humorless laugh.

“Cedric.”

“Did you think all I remembered was your face?”
