His Lesson Killed My Mother Now He Will Pay Chapter 14

“It’s too late.”

Graham frowned. “A million isn’t enough? What else do you want?”

Sloane picked up the storm box. “Maybe some family photos will remind her how important a whole family is.”

She pulled out a picture of my mother and me and held it toward the cameras.

“Look at them. A mother and daughter so clearly in need of protection. What a shame the daughter never learned how to ask for help in a healthy way.”

I surged forward, but Graham threw out an arm to block me.

“Go onstage and clarify things, and you’ll get the box back.”

“Those are my mother’s things!”

His expression hardened. “She is perfectly fine. Stop using words like that to put on a show!”

His hand caught the old photo locket around my neck and yanked.

The delicate chain snapped.

The locket fell to the floor, one corner trapped under the toe of his handmade leather shoe.

The room went dead silent, though the livestream comments were still flying.

*She’s insane.*

*Using her own mother for money.*

Sloane’s voice turned soft again. “Just apologize. Your mother would be so proud of you if she saw this.”

I pushed his shoe aside and picked up the cracked locket.

And suddenly, something inside me went still.

The photo inside was the only intact family picture my mother had managed to save from the ruins after Katrina.
