The One He Left Became The One He Couldn’t Have Chapter 18

The One He Left Became The One He Couldn’t Have Chapter 18

I called Uncle Valentino.

After asking after him and Aunt Valentino.

I gently brought up the matter of the brooch.

“Uncle, I was young and foolish back then. Made a lot of embarrassing scenes.”

“Looking back now, I just feel regret and shame.”

“Adrian’s engaged now.”

“I think it’s best not to stir up any unnecessary misunderstandings.”

Uncle sighed on the phone.

“Gianna. I’ve always liked you. Always doted on you.”

“Truth is, I always wanted you to be my daughter-in-law.”

“Your aunt talks about you and still cries.”

My heart ached.

But the ache was only for the genuine love these two elders had given me.

“Uncle, matters of the heart can’t be forced.”

“You’ve been wronged, Gianna.”

“Not wronged, Uncle. I’ve come to terms with it. I’ve let it go.”

“I’ll help you get that brooch back.”

“In a few days, your aunt and I are coming to Boston for a wedding.”

“I’ll bring it to you myself.”

I thanked him and hung up.

The shipping company for high-value items arrived right then.

The packed boxes of gifts were loaded into the van by the workers.

In a few days, they would be delivered safely into Adrian’s hands.

In a few more days, Uncle and Aunt would come to Boston.

And when the sapphire brooch was returned to me.

All those years of youthful foolishness.

Would finally draw their last line.

After that, we’d be like two highways. One south, one north. Never crossing again.
