His Lesson Killed My Mother Now He Will Pay Chapter 41

On the second anniversary of my mother’s death, I saw Vivian at the cemetery.

She stood before the headstone, clutching the necklace that had once been evidence.

“What should I do with it?” she asked.

“Don’t ask me.”

“I don’t deserve to keep it.”

“That still makes it your decision.”

She stood in silence for a long time, then said, “That night, I was about to ask another question, but Sloane put her hand on mine and told me not to interfere.”

“Sloane put her hand on your hand, not on your brain.”

Vivian went pale.

“It wasn’t that you didn’t know I was asking for help. You just didn’t want to take the risk of believing me.”

She wiped away a tear. “Can I donate to Last Ride in Elena’s name?”

“No. Her name is not a place for you to buy peace of mind.”

She froze.

“You can donate. But not with her name on it, not in exchange for a statement, and not in exchange for forgiveness.”

After a long moment, she nodded. “All right.”

When she left, she didn’t lay the necklace at the grave. Instead, she lifted it and put it back around her own neck.

That evening, a large anonymous transfer appeared in the fund’s account. The finance team asked if I wanted it returned.

I looked at the donor field: *Anonymous*.

“Keep it.”

Compensation was not forgiveness.

Neither was a donation.
