The Annoying Sleepwalker Chapter 08
I stood off to the side, feeling not a shred of guilt.
I hadn’t smashed a single thing.
I hadn’t forced Blair out of her bed in the middle of the night.
All I’d done was place their so-called understanding back in their own hands.
At daybreak, Genevieve contacted Ms. Albright.
This time, I didn’t have to say a word.
Tessa spoke first.
“This isn’t a small issue anymore.”
“Blair is smashing things in the middle of the night.”
“What if next time she hurts someone?”
Mallory immediately chimed in.
“Exactly.”
“She has to pay, and she has to get checked out at the campus health center.”
Genevieve’s face was set.
“The floor’s equipment was damaged. I have to file a formal report.”
When Ms. Albright rushed into the room, her expression was far more serious than it had been the last time.
She looked at the wreckage on the floor, then at me.
“Brigid Pierce, why were all these things on your desk?”
I remained calm.
“After my laptop was smashed, I borrowed my roommate’s iPad for an online class.”
“I borrowed headphones for interview prep and the floor camera to replace project materials.”
“It’s perfectly normal for those things to be on my desk.”
“If Blair really is sleepwalking, then she’s capable of destroying anything left in a shared area of our room.”
“That makes this a safety issue.”
“And if she’s not sleepwalking, then this is even simpler.”
Ms. Albright frowned.
“What do you mean?”
I looked at Blair.
“The first time, she only smashed my laptop.”
“The second time, she again went only to my desk.”
“She doesn’t touch her own things.”
“She doesn’t go near anyone else’s desk.”
“She doesn’t walk into walls, and she doesn’t fall over.”
“Every single time, she destroys only the most expensive item on my desk.”
“Ms. Albright, does that sound like sleepwalking to you, or does it sound like someone choosing their targets?”
Blair’s face went white.
