My Husband The Judge Sentenced Me To Prison Chapter 10

Four years later.

Cannon Beach, Oregon.

I worked as a senior consultant at a local pro bono legal aid center.

I didn’t have a license, but I used my expertise to help countless people who were as helpless as I once was.

Here, people just called me “Sarah.”

I lived in a small cottage with a view of the ocean. Diane was my next-door neighbor.

One afternoon, the ocean wind was blowing hard.

The door to the legal aid center opened. Silhouetted against the light stood two men who looked like they’d been through hell.

Marcus had aged. His once-straight back was now stooped. Leo had lost his elite air; he just looked tired and anxious.

“Sarah…”

Marcus’s voice was trembling.

I looked up from my case files and calmly took off my glasses.

“How did you find me?”

“It took a private investigator four years…” Leo cried, rushing toward me. “Mom! I knew you were here!”

He tried to come around the desk to hug me.

“Don’t touch her!”

A young man’s voice roared. A sixteen-year-old boy shot out from the back room, holding a baseball bat, and stood between us.

It was Alex. A kid I had helped escape an abusive foster home. Now, he was my assistant.

“Who the hell are you? Get away from Sarah!” Alex stood his ground like a protective lion cub.

Leo was stunned, then furious. “What’s it to you? I’m her son!”

“Son?” I said coldly. “Alex, put the bat down.”

I stood up, walked around the desk, and faced Marcus and Leo.

“I don’t have a son,” I said, looking directly at Leo. “My son died the day he stole my digital token and stood by watching as they put me in handcuffs.”

The color drained from Leo’s face.
