Taking Back My Life After My Fiancé And Best Friend Destroyed Me Chapter 05
The Tables Turn
At the police station, Maya cries hard, loud enough for everyone to hear.
“She attacked me! She broke into my office! I want her charged—assault, trespassing, all of it!”
The officer looks from me to Ethan. “Mr. Ethan, this seems like a personal dispute. Maybe we could—”
Maya clutches her stomach and whimpers. “Ethan… I’m scared. The baby… it hurts…”
Ethan looks at me. For one second, he hesitates. Then it’s gone.
“We’ve already broken up,” he says. “She’s not my girlfriend.”
I stare at him. No tears come. I’ve used them all up. These past two days have left me empty.
I taste blood in my mouth. I sit perfectly still and feel absolutely nothing.
Then I hear a voice from the hallway—lazy, amused, loud enough for everyone to hear.
“Ethan, buddy. Come on. Have a little shame.”
Liam walks in with total confidence. Hands in his pockets. Not a care in the world.
“You dump her just like that? She’s carrying your baby, man.”
Ethan’s face drains of color.
“Oh, you didn’t know?” Liam grins. “Yeah. She’s pregnant. Yours. Surprise.”
He leans against the doorframe. “Karma works fast these days. Why don’t you pull out your phone and check your stock price? I bet it’s looking real ugly right about now.”
Ethan snatches his phone. His hands are shaking before the screen even loads.
Today was supposed to be the launch for next season’s designs. The stock should be going up. Instead, it’s crashing.
His phone shows 99+ unread messages. He can barely scroll.
“What did you do?!” He turns on me.
I meet his eyes. “What I should’ve done a long time ago.”
His phone rings. His assistant’s panicked voice spills out:
“Sir! Liam’s company accused us of stealing their designs! They have Chloe’s signed rights agreement. We have nothing! The lawyers say we have zero chance!”
“And it’s all over the news—our stock is tanking! The board wants answers. They’re talking about removing you!”
Ethan stares at me. “Chloe. How could you do this? How could you betray me?”
I almost laugh. I point at Maya. “I betrayed YOU?”
“You just told everyone in this room that we’re done. You said that. Out loud. Five minutes ago.”
“Do I need to remind you what you’ve done to me? Do I need to list it out?”
His face goes white, then red, then white again. His phone rings. The board.
