Taking Back My Life After My Fiancé And Best Friend Destroyed Me Chapter 04
Public Humiliation
Maya screams.
Ethan storms toward me, grabbing my arm. “What the hell are you doing?!”
My hand moves on its own. I slap him so hard his head snaps sideways.
“What am I doing? You have the nerve to ask me that?”
I shove past him, grab Maya by the hair, and drag her to her feet.
“What did you say to my mother? Why did she jump? TELL ME!”
Maya twists away from my grip, eyes darting. “I—I don’t know what you’re talking about!”
“Security! Somebody call security!”
Coworkers crowd around the shattered doorframe, whispering:
“Is Maya the side chick? Did the girlfriend just catch her?”
“Wow. Wouldn’t have guessed. She always seemed so put-together…”
Maya hears them. A single tear rolls down her cheek. She turns to Ethan with wide, desperate eyes.
Ethan walks over and slaps me across the face. Hard.
“Are you done? Can you calm down now?”
Maya sobs against his chest. “Chloe! I always thought of you as my best friend! Why are you doing this while I’m pregnant… do you really hate me that much?”
Someone in the crowd snorts. “Oh, I get it. It’s the jealous friend trying to steal the husband.”
“Yeah—Maya’s fiancé comes to see her every day. No way he’s cheating. This girl is the side piece.”
“Going after your own best friend’s man. That’s low.”
I stare at Ethan. “Tell them. Who’s the other woman here, Ethan? Say it.”
Ethan presses his lips together. For a long second, Ethan says nothing. Then he says, quietly: “Maya’s pregnant.”
Someone throws a crumpled napkin at my face. “Still hanging around? Nobody wants you here!”
“Where’s security? Get her out!”
Three security guards push through the crowd. I lunge for Maya but they tackle me to the ground, pinning my arms behind my back. My cheek scrapes the cold tile.
One guard sneers. “I hate home-wreckers. Maybe we should strip her down and teach her a lesson.”
People start chanting. Someone grabs my collar. The fabric rips. Buttons scatter across the floor. Hands grope at me in the chaos—rough, disgusting fingers on my skin.
I look up and find Maya’s eyes.
She smiles at me. Slow. Satisfied.
Someone in the back yells: “The cops are here!”
Everyone stops talking at once.
