The Mafia’s Lost Daughter Came Home. Then She Tore the Family Apart. Chapter 11

Three days later, the gavel fell.

Chiara was found guilty on multiple counts: attempted murder, conspiracy to commit assault, and fraud.

The sentence: fifteen years without the possibility of early parole.

The girl who once ruled the Moretti household—the one they worshipped like a goddess—was going to spend the best years of her life behind bars.

The storm had passed, but the wreckage it left behind was permanent.

The poison had caused irreversible neurological damage to Donna Moretti.

She was now bedridden, a shadow of her former self, barely able to mutter a coherent sentence.

Moretti Holdings officially filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.

Enzo and Marco went from being the city’s most eligible bachelors to being hunted by creditors, their names dragged through the mud.

Leo had retreated into a catatonic state, shut away in his room, alternating between bouts of weeping and hollow, haunting laughter.

The morning I packed my bags to leave that rot-filled mansion for good, the air felt clean for the first time in years.

I had barely reached the front gate when Enzo and Marco came stumbling out after me.

“Reese! Wait! Where are you going?”

Enzo threw himself onto the gravel in front of my car, sobbing uncontrollably.

“It was our fault! We see it now! Chiara’s gone, she’s paying for it… can’t you just forgive us? Please, stay!”

Marco knelt beside him, pressing his forehead into the dirt over and over until his skin broke.

“Reese, the family is falling apart. Mom’s paralyzed, the company is dead… we know we were wrong. Give us one more chance to make it right. Just one!”

I looked down at them from the open car window. Two broken men groveling in the dirt.

I felt no pity. Only a faint sense of amusement.

“Make it right?”

My voice was like ice. “If I had been the one forced to eat scraps; if I had been the one left to die in that alley; if I had been the one she poisoned… “

“I’d be in a coffin right now.”

“You’re not begging for forgiveness because you’re sorry. You’re begging because you finally realized you’re losers with nothing left, and you need my money to keep you from starving.”

The truth hit them like a physical blow. Their faces turned a sickly, ashen white.

I pulled a legal document from my bag—already signed and notarized—and let it flutter to the ground in front of them.

“Sign it. As of today, Reese Moretti is dead to this family. No ties, no inheritance, no obligations. Total severance.”

Enzo’s hand shook as he reached for the pen. “Reese… how can you be this cold?”

“You’re the ones who taught me how.”

I cut him off, my eyes hard as flint. “I gave you a thousand chances. You chose the snake every single time.”

Under my gaze, they signed. They had no choice.

I took the papers back, folded them neatly, and climbed into the car without a backward glance.

“Drive.”

The car pulled away, tires crunching over the dead leaves of a dead dynasty.

Behind me, the sound of their sobbing faded into the distance. It wasn’t my burden to carry anymore.

I pulled back the curtain and watched the city wake up. The sun was breaking over the skyline, golden and full of promise.

Reese Moretti didn’t need a family name or “blood ties” that felt like nooses.

I was going to build my own world, on my own terms, and I was going to enjoy every moment of doing it alone.

As for the ones rotting in the ruins of the Moretti name?

Let them stay there. They built that hell. Now they can live in it.

The end.
