My Fiancé Betrayed The Wrong Mafia Heiress Chapter 10

You Finally Came Home

The police seal the wedding hall before anyone can leave.

The man who attacked me is taken into custody with the Carter security guards. An officer bags his knife and phone as evidence. The drive and every file Luca copied are secured.

I do not look at Ethan or Vanessa again.

Luca is still conscious when the paramedics bandage his side. The blade misses his vital organs, but the wound needs stitches.

“You need to go to the hospital,” I tell him.

“A doctor is waiting at the house.”

“You can barely stand.”

“I can stand.”

He proves it before I can argue.

“You don’t have to come with me,” I say. “Tell me where to go.”

Luca’s face is pale, but his voice does not change.

“I promised I would bring you home myself.”

An hour later, a black car carries us through the gates of a secluded estate outside the city.

A physician meets us inside. He cleans and stitches Luca’s wound while I wait in the hall.

The attack keeps replaying in my mind.

Exposing the truth did not end the danger. It only forced my enemies into the open.

I once knew how to protect myself.

I need to learn again.

When the physician leaves, Luca changes into a clean shirt and leads me upstairs.

He stops in front of a dark wooden door.

“He’s inside.”

I put my hand on the handle.

Luca looks at me. “Are you ready?”

“No.”

I open the door anyway.

A man stands behind a wide desk.

He is older than I expected. Silver runs through his dark hair, and exhaustion has settled into the lines of his face.

But his eyes are the same as mine.

The moment he sees me, his expression breaks.

“Serafina.”

The name sounds different in his voice.

He takes one step toward me, then stops.

“You finally came home.”

“I didn’t come here to call you my father.”

Pain crosses his face, but he nods.

“Then why are you here?”

“For the truth.”

He looks toward the men standing near the door.

“Leave us.”

They file out. Luca turns to follow them.

“Stay,” I say.

He pauses.

The man behind the desk looks at him, then back at me.

“Luca stays,” I repeat.

No one argues.

I walk farther into the room.

“Why was I in that training ground?”

My father is silent for a moment.

“When you were born, the Moretti family was already at war with itself. My brother wanted control, and your existence stood between him and the position he believed belonged to him.”

“What happened to my mother?”

“She died in an ambush.”

His voice turns rough.

“Before she died, she made me promise that you would never be helpless. She wanted you trained to shoot, fight, and escape if our enemies ever reached you.”

“So you sent a child into that place.”

“I arranged your training. I did not arrange what they did to you.”

Anger rises in my throat.

“That doesn’t change what happened.”

“No,” he says. “It doesn’t.”

His answer leaves me with nowhere to put my anger.

I glance at Luca.

“Why was he there?”

“His father was one of my most trusted men. After he died, I took Luca in. He trained beside you, and his first duty was always to protect you.”

Even then, Luca was placed beside me as a shield.

I turn back to my father.

“You said you didn’t arrange the abuse. Who did?”

“My brother.”

The room goes still.

“I trusted him to supervise the training program,” he continues. “Instead, he bribed the men running it.”

“Why not just kill me?”

“Because killing the rightful heir openly would have turned the family against him. Breaking you was safer.”

My fingers curl at my sides.

“He wanted to destroy your will,” my father says. “Then he could bring you back as something he controlled.”

The cold rooms return to me. The instructors. The punishments. The same words repeated until they became the only truth I knew.

“You’re alone.”

“No one wants you.”

“You can be replaced.”

“They told you that you were an orphan,” my father says. “They made sure you believed you belonged to no one.”

His gaze moves to Luca.

“And it might have worked.”

Luca says nothing.

My father looks at me again.

“Until Luca opened the iron gate.”
