The Betrayed Luna Chapter 02

The Betrayed Luna Chapter 02

At my words, Alden rubbed his brow, voice dripping with impatience:

“Heidi, do you really have to throw a tantrum right now? Viola just had fetal monitoring—she can’t handle stress.”

“I told you, I’ll sort this out. Your position as Luna isn’t going anywhere.”

“Go home first. I’ll come back tonight and explain.”

With that, he didn’t spare me another glance. His arm around Viola, he walked straight past me.

As they brushed by, Viola turned her head. Shot me a victor’s smile. And mouthed, silent:

Old hag.

I stood frozen. The Mate Bond seared through me like a knife. My wolf howled in fury, clawing at my chest.

I drifted home to the Alpha’s villa in a daze. Every trace of our shared life—everywhere I looked—felt like a sick joke.

Our five-year anniversary portrait on the wall. The sweater I’d hand-knitted for him draped over the sofa.

I’d been living as the perfect Luna. The only thing I’d stopped being was myself.

At eleven that night, the keypad beeped and the front door unlocked.

Alden walked in carrying the faint scent of perfume.

The pine scent I’d always loved on him was now tainted with someone else’s perfume.

He saw me on the couch and paused, then approached, softening his tone by a few degrees:

“Heidi, it’s late. Why are you still up?”

He reached out to put his arm around my shoulders. I jerked sideways to avoid him.

His hand hung frozen in midair. His expression darkened:

“How long are you going to keep this up? I already told you—today was an accident.”

“An accident that you lied about being on border patrol? An accident that you slept together? Or an accident that she got pregnant?” I stared at him coldly.

Alden loosened his tie, dropped onto the opposite sofa, and lit a cigarette.

“Heidi, you used to be so reasonable.”

He exhaled a ring of smoke, watching me through the haze.

“Viola’s only twenty. Her life is just beginning. I won’t allow you to interfere with it.”

“What about my life?” My eyes stung. My voice shook.

“Alden, I left New York for you. I ran my body into the ground for your career—I can barely even become a mother anymore!”

“And now you’re telling me you can’t ruin her life?”

A flicker of guilt crossed his eyes—then vanished:

“I know you’ve been wronged. That’s why I said—the Luna position will always be yours.”

“After Viola gives birth, I’ll publicly announce that you’re the pup’s mother.”

“We’ll raise it together. That way you’ll have a child too. Isn’t that a good thing?”

I stared at this man in disbelief.

How could he make something so despicable sound so magnanimous?

“Alden, you disgust me.”

I grabbed the glass from the table and hurled it at his feet.

The sound of shattering glass was deafening in the silent living room.

Alden shot to his feet, face livid:

“Heidi! I’ve already compromised this much—what more do you want from me?”

“Don’t forget—you were the one who insisted on going to that Rogue camp to rescue kidnapped Omegas. Otherwise, how would I have ever met Viola?”

“When you get right down to it—you created this mess yourself!”

I trembled with rage.

Frostvale Pack’s public accounts didn’t have much money. My own money had gone into building Frostvale Pack, and I still had to cover Viola’s living expenses.

I’d bought her clothes. Even planned her future.

Hoped she could work hard, change her fate, rise in rank.

But her way of changing her fate was climbing into my Alpha mate’s bed.

His phone buzzed. “Viola” flashed on the screen.

Alden picked up immediately, voice instantly melting to tenderness:

“What is it, Viola? Is the pup kicking again? Don’t be scared—I’ll be right there…”

He hung up. Didn’t even glance my way. Grabbed his car keys and headed for the door.

“Something came up. I won’t be back tonight. Cool off on your own.”

The door slammed shut.

I sank into the couch, staring at the broken glass scattered across the floor. And suddenly—I laughed.

So five years of love really was this fragile when faced with a younger, fresher body.

I wiped my tears. Pulled out my phone. Dialed my lawyer.

“Felix, I need you to draft a Mate Bond dissolution agreement. As fast as possible.”
