Revenge On My Feet Chapter 14

I held his gaze and spoke clearly.

“Desmond, I am no longer the Nadia who could only hide and cry.”

“I don’t care how other people look at me.”

“This prosthetic is a part of my body. I don’t need to hide it.”

“And you don’t get to worry about me.”

“The person who hurt me the most back then was you.”

For a long time he just stood there, not a word leaving him.

At last he whispered,

“I’m sorry.”

I didn’t give him another glance. I walked straight for the stage entrance.

When the lights rose, I stepped out onto the stage.

A reporter in the front row caught my gait and visibly hesitated.

Someone started to ask,

“Manager Vance, are you—”

I lifted the microphone and finished the sentence for them.

“Yes, I’m disabled. I walk with a prosthetic.”

I looked out over the audience and went on,

“So what?”

The room went quiet.

With the microphone in my hand, my voice held steady.

“My entire personal bonus from this project will be donated to the National Disability Foundation.”

“Thank you to Renwick Group for this partnership, and thank you all for being here today.”

Right then, Yvonne came in through a side door.

The sight of her brought a smile to my face.

“And I will continue to move forward.”

After the press conference, Renwick Group’s head of Legal caught me backstage.

After the press conference, Renwick Group’s head of Legal caught me backstage.

He passed me his phone.

On the screen was a post Renata had just put up.

She had re-uploaded the video of me learning to walk on my prosthetic in the hospital.

Beneath it, she’d added the photos she took when she sicced the golden retriever on me.

The caption read: “Some people get projects by selling a sob story, then turn around and ruin an old friend’s life.”

“Since she’s brave enough to appear on a livestream, I’ll let everyone see what she used to be like.”

The head of Legal asked me,

“Do you need us to contact the platform for you?”

I looked at the video, and for a split second the blood went out of my fingers.

Then I took a screenshot.

“Don’t contact her yet.”

“But please preserve the link and the timestamp.”
