My Fiancé Erased Our Nine-Year Mark For His Blood Servant Chapter 02
She Took My Place
I don’t let myself imagine what Adrian and Sophia must have done to form a Blood Servant bond.
The man I would have given my life for.
The girl I have treated like my own little sister.
Three years.
They have kept this from me for three years.
A Blood Servant bond is symbiotic. Each time a vampire feeds from a Blood Servant, the bond gives some of the vampire’s life force back to the servant.
But I can’t think about them now.
My hand settles over my stomach.
What about my baby?
This is my first child.
Whatever happens between Adrian and me, I want to keep it.
My mind is still blank when my mother’s voice comes through the phone.
“Evelyn, if you’re really coming home to marry Lucien Ashford, you need to decide what you’re going to do about the baby. Soon.”
My fingers tighten around the phone.
I close my eyes.
“I’ll figure something out.”
By the time I return to the house Adrian and I have shared for years, I think nothing else can hurt me today.
I am wrong.
The moment I walk inside, I stop.
My things are gone.
Not packed in a corner.
Gone.
The portrait Adrian and I chose together is no longer above the fireplace. The books I kept beside the sofa have disappeared. Even the flowers I always leave by the window are missing.
In their place are things I recognize immediately.
Sophia’s.
Her books. Her perfume. Her photographs.
A pale blue shawl lies across my favorite chair.
It is hers.
The house doesn’t look as if Sophia has moved in.
It looks as if I never lived here at all.
“Evelyn?”
Sophia appears at the top of the stairs.
She is wearing a white dress, her long hair falling loosely around her shoulders. Her face lights up with the same sweet smile I have known for years.
“You’re back.”
She comes down the stairs quickly.
For one ridiculous second, she still looks like the girl I used to adore.
“Where are my things?”
Her smile falters.
“Adrian thought it would be better to make some changes before the wedding.”
My eyes move past her.
“Where are they?”
“Sent away.”
Two words.
Nine years of my life, sent away.
I look toward the stairs.
“My bedroom?”
Sophia doesn’t answer.
I already know.
I walk upstairs and push open the door.
The room has been completely changed.
My clothes are gone from the closet.
My jewelry is gone from the dresser.
My books, my perfume, even the pearl-handled hairbrush Adrian gave me years ago—gone.
Sophia’s dresses hang where mine used to.
Her cosmetics cover my dresser.
And beside the bed is a glass stained faintly red at the bottom.
Blood.
I turn around.
Sophia is standing in the doorway.
“I’m sorry,” she says softly. “I know this must feel sudden to you.”
Something in her voice makes me look at her again.
The sweetness is still there.
But not in her eyes.
“It didn’t feel sudden to me.”
For the first time, I see her clearly.
“You’ve been waiting for this.”
Sophia’s lips curve slightly.
“Adrian didn’t want me to feel like a guest in my own home.”
My own home.
She says it deliberately.
“Three days ago, this was my home.”
“And three days from now, I’ll be his wife.”
There it is.
No dying girl.
No innocent little sister.
Just Sophia.
I stare at her, almost unable to connect this woman with the human girl I once protected.
“You wanted him all along.”
Her smile returns.
“Does it matter now?”
I step toward her.
“You can have the wedding. But don’t mistake his guilt for love.”
The smile vanishes.
“Guilt?”
“You said you saved him. We both know that’s the only reason he’s doing this.”
Sophia’s smile slips.
Only for a second.
Then she reaches for the bloodstained glass beside the bed.
“Get out of my room,” I say.
She looks at me.
And lets the glass fall.
It shatters.
Before I can react, Sophia bends and closes her hand around one of the broken pieces.
Blood immediately wells in her palm.
“What the hell are you doing?”
Footsteps sound behind me.
“Evelyn!”
Adrian.
Sophia drops the shard.
Her entire expression changes.
“Adrian…”
Her voice trembles.
He sees the blood and crosses the room in an instant.
He doesn’t ask what happened.
He doesn’t even look at me.
He takes Sophia’s injured hand in his.
“What did you do to her?”
I stare at him.
“She did that herself.”
Sophia lowers her eyes.
“I shouldn’t have touched Evelyn’s things. She was upset. I understand.”
Of course.
Adrian turns to me, his face hard.
“You knew how weak she is.”
“Adrian—”
“Enough.”
He pulls Sophia behind him.
In the bedroom that used to be mine.
“Stay away from Sophia, Evelyn.”
