My Husband Sold Me To The Mafia King Who Turned Out To Be My Daddy Chapter 05

Dead silence in the room.

My dad’s tall frame is frozen. Rooted in place. Like something’s holding him there.

Those eyes of his — the eyes that have ordered more deaths than anyone in this city can count — are shaking now. Actually shaking.

His gaze drops.

Broken glass on the floor.

My blood-soaked dress.

My arm, pinned under Damon’s knee.

My two fingers, bent at angles fingers shouldn’t bend.

And then — my face.

The gash. Deep. Ragged. Down to the bone.

Blood pouring off my cheek onto the floor.

The second he sees my face, the color drains out of him. All of it. Chalk white.

His whole body sways. He stops breathing. His eyes flood red — bloodshot in a second.

He starts to shake. Uncontrollably.

That’s his daughter.

The girl he’s been searching for. Three years. The one he wouldn’t even touch in a dream because he was so afraid of breaking her.

And here she is.

On the floor like a piece of garbage. Face slashed open. Fingers crushed.

But Serena?

Serena doesn’t get it yet.

She still doesn’t see the reaper standing in the doorway.

She’s smiling. Hips swinging. Holding that boning knife — still dripping with my blood — as she saunters over to him.

“Mr. Whitmore! You made it—”

“This bitch, sir. Out of nowhere. Running her mouth.”

“She actually said your name. Out loud.”

“And this ring? Some cheap knockoff. Trying to play big.”

“So I taught her a lesson. For you, sir.”

“Look — I already got her face. She’s tougher than she looks—”

BOOM.

The sound cuts her off.

My dad’s foot lands square in her stomach.

Serena flies backwards. Ten feet. Slams into the wall.

Crack. Crack. Crack.

The sound of her ribs snapping.

Blughh —

She hits the floor and vomits up a mouthful of blood and something worse. Chunks of it.

Her eyes roll back. She goes limp. Like a dead dog. Can’t even twitch.

The whole room is paralyzed.

Damon’s still on top of me. Still holding the shard of glass buried in my thigh.

He sees Serena on the floor. Sees she might already be dead.

He shudders. His face goes blank. Stupid.

But he doesn’t understand what just happened. He thinks Serena pissed my dad off. Stole his fun.

So he lets go of me. Scrambles onto his knees. Crawls toward my dad like a dog.

“Mr. Whitmore! Sir! Please —”

“It’s her, sir. She doesn’t know her place. She made you mad — that’s all.”

“This one’s tough, sir. She can take a lot. Trust me.”

“You don’t like her like this? Just say the word.”

“I’ll drag her out myself. Right now. Won’t dirty your hands. I swear on my life.”

He’s kowtowing. Grinning. Groveling.

My dad doesn’t even look at him.

He stumbles forward. One step. Another. Right to me.

The man the entire underworld is terrified of — the crime lord of the East Coast — is trembling as he reaches out.

He tries to touch the gash on my face. His hand stops midair. Shaking so hard he can’t bring it down.

He tries to cup my broken fingers. Same thing. His hand won’t move.

“Cora… baby…”

His voice comes out wrecked. Hoarse. Splitting apart.

Tears — from those cold, killing eyes — spill down his face. Fat, heavy drops. Mixing with my blood on the floor.

I look at him. Cold. Blank.

I drag my lips into a mocking smile.

“Oh. Now you care?”

“Three years apart, and I hear the underground business is booming. Where was all this heartbreak the night Mom died in a thunderstorm?”

The words go into him like a blade.

He shuts his eyes. Tears pouring. His hands clench into fists.

Then he swings and slaps himself. Hard. The crack of it fills the room.

“I’m sorry… Daddy got here too late. Daddy deserves to die. I didn’t protect you—”

He can’t get another word out. He’s choking on it.

Daddy.

That single word explodes through Damon and Vivian like lightning.

Damon’s smile freezes on his face. His pupils shrink. He can’t process it — my dad, on his knees, sobbing at my feet. Me, covered in blood.

“Daddy…?”

His voice comes out like a strangled bird. Cracks in the middle.

Every ounce of that arrogance he was so proud of? Gone. Just gone. He literally pisses himself where he kneels.

Vivian collapses. Sits down hard. Clamps both hands over her mouth. Her eyes go huge with terror.

My dad doesn’t spare a glance for either of those insects.

He shrugs off his coat. Wraps me in it. Careful. Gentle. Like I’m made of glass.

Then he lifts me into his arms.

The second he stands, the grief in his eyes burns off — replaced by something else. Something hungry. Something murderous. A lion with its cubs bloodied.

“Get a doctor! Every top doctor in this city! Get them here NOW!”

He roars it into the hallway. The walls shake.

He carries me out. Long strides. But at the doorway, he pauses.

He tilts his head. Just slightly. Ice-cold eyes drift over to Damon — kneeling in a puddle of his own urine, shaking.

Then to Serena — crumpled in the corner, out cold.

He leaves them with one last line.

Soft. Almost casual. And it turns every spine in that room to water.

“Watch them. Don’t let a single one of them run.”

“Anyone lets them die before I say so? I bury your whole family with them.”
