Reborn I Refused The Mafia Husband Who Buried Me Alive Chapter 07

He Wants His Old Life Back

Adrian is dragged back to the DeLuca estate before he can come after me.

His father is furious.

“You embarrassed Isabella, the Morettis, and this family in front of half the city.”

Adrian barely listens.

All he can think about is Elena getting into a Morelli car.

His mother blocks the door.

“You spent years chasing Isabella. You wanted this marriage.”

“I don’t anymore.”

“Because Elena suddenly has Don Morelli protecting her?”

Adrian looks at her.

“Because I want Elena.”

The room goes silent.

Isabella hears him.

She comes downstairs still wearing the dress chosen for their wedding.

“You want her?”

“Isabella—”

“You gave up a shipping corridor to force Elena into this family. Then you tried to make her your wife in front of everyone.”

Her voice shakes.

“What happened to you?”

Adrian doesn’t answer.

Because there is no answer she could understand.

In his first life, he thought everything had worked out perfectly.

He had Isabella and Elena.

He had five sons and three daughters.

Isabella had the marriage and status she wanted without risking her health, while Elena gave him the heirs the DeLucas needed.

For thirty years, Adrian never questioned the arrangement.

Even when Isabella asked him to bury Elena with her, he thought Elena was being selfish for refusing.

Isabella had spent decades watching another woman share the man she loved.

Was one final sacrifice really too much to ask?

So Adrian gave the order.

Then Elena died.

At first, life continued.

Until an old injury flared up.

Adrian waited for his medication.

No one brought it.

He asked where it was kept.

No one knew.

Elena had always known.

Then came the sleepless nights.

The meals he couldn’t stomach.

The pain in his shoulder after cold weather.

The endless details he had never noticed because Elena handled them before he had to ask.

For thirty years, she had been everywhere.

And after she was gone, he finally understood the size of the space she had occupied.

He began remembering things differently.

Elena waiting up when he came home injured.

Elena raising their children while he worked.

Elena following him into exile without complaint.

Elena begging inside that coffin.

By the time regret came, there was nothing left to save.

Then Adrian opened his eyes at nineteen.

He thought he’d been given a chance to fix everything.

He would marry Elena again.

He would keep Isabella.

They would have the same children.

And this time, Elena would grow old beside him.

He thought that was mercy.

Until Elena looked at him like she would rather die than live through another day of it.

Now he understands one thing.

She isn’t coming back willingly.

Adrian looks at Isabella.

“I want out of this marriage.”

She stares at him.

“You can’t be serious.”

“I’ll compensate the Morettis. I’ll take the political damage.”

“And me?”

He has no answer that won’t destroy her.

“She doesn’t even want you,” she says.

“That’s between Elena and me.”

“No. It isn’t.”

She steps closer.

“You married me. In front of our families. In front of the Commission.”

Adrian turns away.

He’ll deal with the marriage later.

First, he needs Elena.

He goes to Vittorio Morelli.

The answer is immediate.

“No.”

Adrian places a folder on Vittorio’s desk.

“Name your price.”

“I already have what I want.”

“What did Elena give you?”

Vittorio smiles.

“Something more useful than whatever is in that folder.”

“Where is she?”

Vittorio doesn’t answer.

One of his men enters and murmurs something in his ear.

Vittorio stands.

Their meeting is over.

As Adrian leaves, he catches two words.

Underground casino.

And Elena.
