The Betrayed Mafia Wife Takes Bloody Revenge Chapter 04
The Door Opened
Vivian screamed first.
Then Rafe.
Then Mason roared.
I stayed where I was.
Ten yards down the hallway.
Far enough that no one could say I had been part of the first seconds.
Far enough that I could see the door.
Not what happened inside it.
There was a crash.
A lamp shattered.
Someone hit the wall.
“Mason!”
Vivian shrieked.
“Wait—”
“You lying—”
Another crash.
Then Rafe’s voice.
“Put it down.”
Mason screamed something I couldn’t understand.
A wet sound followed.
Everything went silent.
One second.
Two.
Then Rafe stumbled into the hallway.
His shirt was open.
Blood soaked through the white fabric at his side.
For one impossible moment, he looked more confused than hurt.
He saw me.
“Elena.”
His voice cracked.
He reached one hand toward me.
I didn’t move.
Blood ran between his fingers.
“Elena.”
Hope flashed across his face.
He thought I would save him.
Of course he did.
I had spent seven years saving him from everything.
Bad deals.
Bad press.
Tax investigations.
Drunk friends.
His father.
His temper.
Himself.
He took one step toward me.
“Mason lost his mind.”
Behind him, Vivian screamed again.
Rafe stretched his hand farther.
“Help me.”
I watched him.
I watched the man who had held me while I slept.
The man who had paid my tuition when my family refused.
The man who had promised he would never leave me.
The man who had slept with my best friend in my hospital room while I mourned our child.
His hand trembled.
I stayed still.
The hope in his eyes began to die.
Only then did I scream.
“Help!”
I ran forward.
“Someone help! Call security!”
Mason appeared behind Rafe.
There was blood on his hand.
Vivian clung to the doorframe, barely dressed, mascara streaked down her face.
Rafe tried to turn.
Mason grabbed him by the ankle and dragged him backward.
A long red smear appeared across the carpet.
“Elena!”
Rafe’s voice broke.
“Elena, please!”
I covered my mouth.
I made myself shake.
Mason shouted:
“You slept with my wife?”
Rafe tried to kick free.
“Mason, listen to me—”
“She is my wife!”
Vivian screamed.
“It was Rafe! He forced me!”
Mason turned on her.
For the first time, he looked at her clothing.
At the champagne.
At the room.
At the black dress lying across the bed.
His face twisted.
“You think I’m stupid?”
“No—”
“You booked this room.”
“Mason—”
“You told me you were working.”
He turned back to Rafe.
“You knew.”
Rafe pressed both hands to his side.
“You work for me.”
Mason laughed.
It was the worst sound I had ever heard.
“Not tonight.”
I dialed 911.
By the time hotel security arrived, Rafe was barely conscious.
Vivian saw my phone in my hand.
Then she looked at Mason.
Then at me.
Understanding entered her face.
“You.”
She pointed at me.
“You called him.”
I stared at her.
“I told your husband you were drunk.”
“You knew!”
“He is your husband.”
My voice cracked perfectly.
“Who else was I supposed to call?”
Sirens screamed outside.
Vivian went white.
Rafe’s eyes fluttered.
He looked at me one last time.
Not with love.
With betrayal.
It almost made me smile.
