The Betrayed Mafia Wife Takes Bloody Revenge Chapter 05
The Perfect Wife
The police separated us.
Vivian wouldn’t stop screaming.
“She planned it!”
“Elena planned everything!”
“She knew Mason would lose control!”
I sat wrapped in a hotel blanket.
My hands shook around a paper cup of water.
“I called her husband.”
That was all I said.
An officer crouched in front of me.
“Why?”
I looked at him as if the answer were obvious.
“Because she was drunk.”
“And she was with your husband.”
My eyes filled.
“I thought if Mason came, he could take Vivian home.”
“I thought Rafe would come home with me.”
The officer looked away.
Pity.
Good.
I had lived beneath pity for years.
People underestimated women they pitied.
It was useful.
Everyone from the club was questioned.
They told the same story.
Elena was obsessed with Rafe.
Elena had forgiven everything.
Elena couldn’t survive without him.
One man even said:
“She was standing outside crying while he was kissing Vivian.”
Another said:
“Rafe could’ve brought another woman home and Elena probably would’ve made her breakfast.”
They laughed less while saying it to the police.
But the story stayed the same.
I was weak.
Dependent.
Harmless.
Vivian was taken into another room.
Mason was arrested without resisting.
Rafe was rushed into surgery.
A detective came back to me after midnight.
“Mrs. Cole?”
I stood too quickly.
“My husband?”
“He’s alive.”
I let my knees weaken.
The detective caught my arm.
“He lost a lot of blood.”
“He’s in surgery now.”
I cried.
That part was real.
Not because I wanted him alive.
Not because I wanted him dead.
Because grief is rarely clean.
I had loved Rafe once.
Maybe part of me still loved the man he had been.
The detective waited.
Then asked:
“Did you know Vivian and your husband were having an affair before tonight?”
I looked down.
“I suspected.”
“How long?”
“I don’t know.”
That was a lie.
I had known for six months.
A perfume receipt.
A hotel charge.
A second phone.
A bracelet Rafe claimed was for me that never arrived.
I had recorded everything.
I had saved screenshots.
Statements.
Transfers.
Dates.
I hadn’t confronted him.
Not because I was afraid.
Because evidence is more useful than tears.
The detective watched me.
“You understand why Vivian thinks you set this up?”
I looked up.
“Because she cheated on her husband with mine?”
He didn’t answer.
I continued:
“I asked Rafe to come home.”
“He refused.”
“I called Mason because I wanted Vivian gone.”
“What happened after that wasn’t what I wanted.”
Every word was technically true.
By dawn, I was allowed to leave.
Vivian was not arrested.
Not yet.
Mason was.
Outside the station, Vivian caught up to me.
Her face was swollen from crying.
“You did this.”
I turned.
She hissed:
“You knew what Mason was like.”
“You used him.”
I looked at her.
Then at the wedding ring still on her finger.
“Vivian.”
“You used to tell me he would do anything for you.”
Her face went blank.
“You used to laugh about it.”
I stepped closer.
“You called him your dog.”
Her lips parted.
I smiled sadly.
“I believed you.”
