My Boss Wanted My Husband Chapter 03

Of course, revenge was revenge, but divorce came first.

Mark came over with Lily attached to his arm like a decorative vine.

Her slightly rounded belly might as well have been a medal.

I worked hard to keep my voice calm, even a little nostalgic.

“Mark, do you remember when we first moved in together? We didn’t even have a proper dining table. We sat on moving boxes and ate cup noodles. You said you would give me a good life someday.”

I slowly listed our old memories, watching his face closely.

I wanted to find even a trace of emotion there.

If he still had a heart, even a flicker of guilt, maybe…

Maybe the plan that followed would have been different.

Maybe his endangered backside still could have been saved.

But I was disappointed.

There was only impatience in his eyes.

He cut me off.

“Let’s not bring up the past. I’m here to discuss the divorce terms.”

The last weak flame in my heart went out with a soft little pop.

Fine.

That made what came next easier.

I lowered my head. My shoulders trembled slightly, and my eyes reddened.

“All right. I understand. I was forcing it. But you are the one who wronged me, aren’t you?”

“To be honest, I’m trying for a promotion. My boss cares a lot about whether employees have stable family lives. The company annual party is next week. Mark, for the sake of what we once had, help me one last time. Come with me and show your face. If you do, I will sign the divorce papers the next day and never bother you again.”

This move combined retreat, weakness, and a practical benefit.

As expected, Mark hesitated.

But Lily was very alert.

“No way,” she snapped. “Who knows what trick you’re trying to pull? What if you use the chance to cling to Mark?”

Then her eyes turned, and she made an even nastier demand.

“If you want him to cooperate, return all the designer bags and jewelry you took from him before. Consider it a sincerity deposit.”

I looked conflicted.

“Those were gifts he willingly gave me. They belong to me.”

“Willingly? You mean you manipulated him into buying them.”

The situation froze.

I stood, breathing hard as if furious.

“I’m going to the bathroom to cool down.”

As soon as I locked the bathroom door, I pulled out my phone.

“Boss, the mistress says I have to give back the bags and jewelry Mark bought me before she’ll let him come to the annual party. I don’t want to, and we’re stuck.”

Victor replied almost instantly.

“How much are they worth?”

I thought about it.

“About thirty thousand.”

My phone buzzed.

Forty-five thousand dollars landed in my account.

Another message came from Victor.

“Stop wasting time. Follow the plan.”

Looking at all those zeros, I felt instantly steady.

I rubbed my eyes in the mirror until they looked even redder. Then I put on the expression of someone cutting off her own flesh and walked back out.

“I’ve thought it through. I truly want to be an independent woman. These material things… I don’t need them anymore.”

Under Lily’s suspicious gaze and Mark’s surprised one, I opened my safe.

One by one, I took out the designer bags and jewelry and placed them on the bed.

“They’re all here.”

Lily inspected them like merchandise.

After confirming they were authentic and in good condition, she smiled like a victor.

“Since you’re being sensible, Mark, go with her this once.”

Then she turned to Mark, her tone full of control.

“But on the night of the party, you must answer my messages immediately. You have to video call me and report where you are and who you’re with. Do you hear me?”

Mark nodded quickly, obedient as a trained dog.
