My Assassin Husband Pointed His Gun At The Mafia Queen Chapter 06
He Says I Never Loved Him
Adrian waits until Vanessa is gone before he finally looks at me.
“Was I ever your husband, Serena?”
I say nothing.
“Or was I just another man you rescued and decided to keep?”
“You decide what’s best. You move people around like pieces on a board. You always know more. You always have another plan.”
His voice gets louder.
“And everyone worships you for it.”
“This isn’t about everyone.”
“It’s always been about you.”
I stare at him.
“Do you know what people call me?”
“Adrian.”
“They call me Serena Vale’s husband.”
I don’t answer.
“The man the Mafia Queen saved.”
“The assassin she trained. The stray she dragged home and turned into something useful.”
“Is that what you think you are?”
“It’s what you made me.”
“No.”
I step closer.
“I found you half-dead and gave you a choice.”
“You gave me a life that belonged to you.”
“I gave you everything I had.”
“Exactly.”
His eyes burn.
“You never loved me. You loved saving me.”
“Maybe I did save you too many times.”
He looks at me.
“Maybe I stepped in before you could fall. Maybe I made decisions for both of us because I thought I knew better.”
His expression shifts.
“But none of that put you in Vanessa’s bed.”
His face hardens again.
“Serena—”
“None of it made you hurt Ellie.”
He looks away.
“None of it made you recruit my people behind my back.”
“Stop.”
“None of it made you lock your wife and daughter underground for seven days.”
“I said stop.”
“And I sure as hell didn’t make you put a gun against our daughter’s head.”
He slams his fist into the wall.
“I wasn’t going to shoot her!”
Ellie’s terrified face flashes through my mind.
“She didn’t know that.”
Adrian goes still.
“She thought her father was about to kill her.”
His breathing turns uneven.
“You don’t get to blame that on me.”
“I did everything for this family.”
“So did I.”
“No. You did everything for your empire.”
I look around the holding cell.
“Then why did you need to steal it?”
He stares at me.
There it is.
“All these years,” he says through clenched teeth, “I gave you everything.”
“So did I.”
He raises the knife again.
“And look where that got us.”
He comes at me.
A gunshot tears through the room.
