Bound To The Wrong Mafia Boss Loved By The Right Golden Boy Chapter 02
The Pendant
That night, I passed his room on the way to mine.
His door was cracked open. Careless, for someone usually so guarded.
I glanced through the gap. He was lying on his bed, one arm behind his head, the other holding up a pendant he always kept hidden under his shirt. His eyes were soft. Tender. The kind of look he never gave me.
Two of the house staff were whispering behind me.
“I heard Dominic found that pendant the first time he met Mira. He’s kept it on him ever since. Won’t let anyone even look at it.”
“So romantic. Like a princess and her knight.”
“If Boss hadn’t specifically chosen him for our young heiress, he would’ve absolutely picked Mira. What a twist of fate…”
In the moonlight, I couldn’t make out the pendant clearly.
I only saw Dominic sigh, close his fist around it, press it against his heart, and shut his eyes.
Stupid man.
So his three days of ‘personal leave’ were just to sit here and pine?
I went back to my room without looking back.
…
The next morning, Dominic was waiting at my door. Fully dressed. Ready to work.
“I thought you were on leave,” I said, frowning.
He stared straight ahead. “Finished early. Came back to protect you, Miss Sinclair.”
“Right.”
I didn’t bother calling out the lie.
I took him with me to meet a client at the coast.
The second we arrived, a familiar pink figure threw herself into his arms. “Dom! I didn’t think you’d actually come! I thought you’d be too busy!” Mira beamed up at him, all sugar and sparkle.
The ice in his expression finally melted. “For someone worth it, I’m never too busy.”
I glanced back in surprise.
So that’s why he suddenly cancelled his leave. That’s why he dressed up today.
Protecting me? What a joke.
Mira twirled in front of him in a pink floral dress, the hem brushing against his leg. “Do you like the dress you designed for me? Do I look pretty?”
Dominic turned his face slightly, hiding a faint blush. “Miss Mira looks beautiful in anything.”
I stared.
Three months. He’d locked himself in his design studio for three months.
I thought he was making my birthday gift. All I got was a birthday greeting card.
It was for her.
Of course it was.
“Dominic.” I cut through their little moment. “Whose bodyguard are you?”
The smile vanished from his face instantly.
Mira’s expression shifted too, sweet to wounded in a heartbeat. She looked up at him with big eyes. “It’s okay, Dom. Work comes first. Go be with her. I’m fine, really…”
He looked at her for a long moment. Then turned, cold-faced, and followed me.
That’s when the barking started.
A woman’s Neapolitan Mastiff ripped free from its leash and charged straight at me.
I’d been terrified of dogs since I was a child. By the time I reacted, it was already on me.
“Dominic!”
I reached for his arm on instinct.
But I grabbed air.
The Mastiff slammed me to the ground. When I looked up, Dominic was ten feet away, Mira wrapped tight in his arms.
The dog wasn’t even running in her direction.
She wasn’t the one who was afraid of dogs.
He knew. He knew all of that better than anyone.
The pet owner dragged the dog off me eventually. My arms and legs were covered in scratches.
The Mastiff hadn’t meant to hurt me. It just wanted to play.
But a hundred-fifty-pound dog jumping on you still leaves marks.
I looked at Dominic.
He pulled Mira behind him first. Then he met my eyes.
“You.” My voice was ice. “Come with me. Now.”
