The Third Time My Alpha Accused Me Of Cheating I Left Chapter 08
Grayson’s POV
I don’t know how long it was before my phone buzzed.
My secretary.
“Alpha, something interesting. The men from the second and third incidents—both received large transfers into their bank accounts from the same source…” He paused. “Is it possible that all three times were staged?”
I stared at the screen. My fingers tightened, knuckle by knuckle.
“File a police report.” My voice was hoarse when I spoke. “Hand over all existing evidence to the authorities.”
I hesitated. “And Naomi’s manipulation of the Alpha heir—include that as well.”
After I hung up, I stood there for a long time. My chest felt hollowed out.
Like something had been ripped away by force.
Over the next few days, I stayed at the hospital with Asher while waiting for any word from Esme.
When the fever had Asher drifting in and out, he asked several times: “Where’s Mommy?”
I couldn’t answer. Not once.
Esme had really… left both of us behind.
…
Naomi was arrested two weeks later.
When the police kicked in the door, her face was white as paper.
“Grayson, I’ve followed you all these years—and this is what I get?”
She was escorted past me. At the threshold, she suddenly burst out laughing. “You think arresting me will bring her back?”
“Grayson, keep dreaming!”
“Her mother is dead. She’ll never forgive you—not in this lifetime!”
“Ha ha ha—”
The patrol car pulled away. I stood there, took out my phone. In the past two weeks, I’d sent Esme hundreds of messages.
[I’m sorry.]
[Your son misses you.]
[I was wrong.]
…
Not a single reply. I stared at the screen for a while, then slid the phone back into my pocket.
I still had to pick Asher up from preschool. His teacher kept telling me lately that Asher was getting quieter.
He’d sit alone, staring at nothing. When someone asked what he was thinking about, he’d say:
“I’m thinking about when Mommy’s coming to pick me up.”
When I went to get him, he was sitting by himself outside the classroom door.
He saw me and slowly stood. I took his hand and walked him through the school gates. The setting sun stretched our shadows long across the ground—father and son.
Halfway home, Asher suddenly tilted his head up.
“Daddy.”
“Is it because I liked Auntie Naomi more… that Mommy got mad and left?”
My feet stopped. My throat seized shut. It was a long time before I managed to speak.
“No.”
I looked down at him.
“Daddy’s the one who made her leave.”
“Then make her come back.”
Asher swung my hand.
“Daddy, can’t you just say sorry? Declan broke my eraser and he said sorry and I forgave him.”
Now I finally wanted to apologize. But Esme didn’t want to hear it anymore.
I lowered my eyes. A memory surfaced—the first time I ever saw Esme. She’d been stunningly vivid among the wolves. Impossible to miss.
I’d pursued her first.
I’d tried everything. She kept running.
She said she was just an Omega-rank wolf.
She was afraid the gap between us was too wide. Afraid a passion born of impulse wouldn’t last.
But I hadn’t cared.
I’d told her again and again: “If you like me even a little—just give me a chance. I’ll handle the rest.”
But she never dared say yes.
Until the Full Moon Banquet.
That night, I drank a glass of wine. Before long, my mind went hazy. When I woke, Esme was lying naked beside me—my mating mark fresh on her neck.
In that moment, I felt only disbelief.
Then I laughed coldly.
So that’s how it was.
