Abandoned XXL Wife: My Second Husband Is A Tycoon Chapter 07
That night, I put Charlie to bed and read him The Lost Little Star.
By the time I closed the book, his breathing was slow and even.
I pulled the blanket up to his chin.
A soft knock came at the door.
“Sophie.”
Ethan’s voice.
“Can we talk?”
I stepped into the hallway.
He was waiting near the study.
A few minutes later, I sat across from him at his desk.
He leaned back in his chair.
“Your ex-husband.”
I looked at him.
“Daniel?”
“Is his family the Kane group that started in coal and later moved into the children’s and baby-products business?”
I paused.
“Yeah.”
I gave a small shrug.
“That would be them.”
Ethan’s fingers tapped once against the desk.
Then again.
“If you want, I can make Kane Trading disappear in three days.”
I looked at him.
He sounded like he was offering me another cup of coffee.
“Not just their investment contracts. Every offline distributor they have.”
His eyes stayed on mine.
“You don’t have to clean that footprint yourself.”
He leaned forward slightly.
“You shouldn’t have to. Because I can deal with the foot that made it.
My breath caught.
My heart skipped a beat for just a moment. It was the first time anyone had ever made such a big deal for me.
But after a long pause, I still spoke up.
“Mr. Foster, don’t let something this small affect your business decisions.”
“It isn’t small.”
Ethan’s eyes settled on me. “You’re my wife.”
He paused.
“Protecting you and Charlie is my responsibility.”
“I’m only your wife on paper.”
He didn’t answer.
After a moment, he said, “Sophie, I need you to come with me to the family estate tomorrow.”
“My father wants to meet you.”
I sat up a little straighter.
“Do I need to prepare anything?”
“No.”
“Will your parents care about where I come from?”
Daniel’s family had looked down on me for being ordinary.
The Fosters were on another level.
Ethan suddenly smiled.
“Sophie, my family doesn’t need marriage alliances to make money.”
I went quiet.
He wasn’t wrong.
A family that had built an empire didn’t need a daughter-in-law to bring them a business deal.
…
Ethan had a dress made for me.
When I stepped out of the dressing room, Charlie’s mouth fell open.
“Dad! Look!”
“Mommy’s so pretty!”
Ethan looked up.
His eyes paused on me for a second.
“Yeah. She is.”
He looked at me.
“My father takes family very seriously. He changed the meeting into a dinner.”
“I…”
“Don’t be nervous.”
His voice dropped. “I’ll be with you.”
After they left, I looked at myself in the mirror again.
The dress fit perfectly.
For the first time in a long while, I liked what I saw.
Then I caught the butler’s reflection behind me.
He smiled.
“Ms. Vance, you really think marrying Mr. Foster means you’ve made it?”
“His family will dig into your entire background.”
“Do you honestly think his parents will accept you?”
He gave me a slow look.
“I’d say you’re walking straight into humiliation.”
My fingers tightened around the edge of the vanity.
The confidence I’d just found slipped.
He was right about one thing.
The Fosters would know everything.
I looked at the ring on my finger.
Then I thought of Ethan standing beside me.
I picked up my bag.
“Let’s go.”
