Abandoned XXL Wife: My Second Husband Is A Tycoon Chapter 08

A Rolls-Royce pulled up outside the Foster estate.

The moment Ethan and I stepped out, people turned toward us.

“That must be Mr. Foster’s wife.”

“She’s beautiful.”

“They look perfect together.”

I kept my smile small.

No one was asking what family I came from.

I walked beside Ethan through the crowd.

He didn’t slow down.

He didn’t hide me.

He simply kept my hand in his.

We went upstairs to meet his parents.

I had expected questions.

Maybe cold smiles.

Maybe a few carefully chosen insults.

Instead, his parents welcomed me with warm smiles.

They were nothing like the in-laws I’d once known.

Mrs. Foster took off the jade bracelet from her wrist.

The stone was a deep, clear green.

She placed it in my palm.

“This belonged to the Foster women before you.”

Her fingers closed gently around mine.

“My son finally gave me a chance to pass it on.”

I looked at Ethan.

He gave my hand a small squeeze.

“Take it.”

“But…”

“It’s yours.”

Mrs. Foster smiled.

“She has such a sweet face.”

She looked at Ethan.

“You finally found someone who makes you happy.”

Charlie ran over and climbed into her arms.

“Grandma! Mommy’s amazing!”

“She can swim!”

“She saved me!”

“And she designs the coolest shirts!”

Mrs. Foster laughed.

“Is that right?”

Charlie nodded hard.

“I like Mommy the best.”

Mrs. Foster kissed the top of his head.

“Then Grandma likes her too.”

A cough came from across the room. Mr. Foster sat straight in his chair.

He looked at me.

“Sophie, right?”

I straightened.

“Yes, sir.”

His face was so serious that my fingers curled around the jade bracelet.

Here it comes.

He reached for a small black case.

“I didn’t prepare much.”

He opened it.

“Your mother-in-law and I don’t have much to give you.”

He pulled out a bankbook.

“Just some cash.”

Then he placed several property documents beside it.

“And a few old buildings.”

“You can transfer them into your name when you have time.”

I stared at the bankbook.

One hundred million dollars.

Then the property documents.

Prime commercial locations.

I didn’t move.

Ethan nudged my arm.

“Mom and Dad gave them to you.”

“Take them.”

I leaned toward him and whispered,

“Do I really look like someone who deserves all this?”

He whispered back,

“Is this really the time to worry about that?”

“Take the money first.”

I almost laughed.

Ethan reached over and took the documents from his father.

“Sophie is shy. I’ll accept them for her.”

“Thank you, Mom. Dad.”

Then the door flew open.

The butler rushed in.

“Mr. Foster. Mrs. Foster.”

He pointed at me.

“She just got divorced.”

“Her family has no standing. She isn’t good enough for Mr. Foster.”

The room went silent.

I looked down at the bankbook in my hands.

Suddenly, it felt much heavier.

I held it out.

“Maybe I shouldn’t take these.”

Mrs. Foster’s expression changed. The warmth disappeared.

“Keep them.”

I froze.

“We don’t take back gifts in this family.”

The butler hurried forward.

“But Mrs. Foster, she’s a divorced woman.”

“Our son could have anyone.”

Mrs. Foster slowly turned toward him.

“William.” Her voice was calm.

“You’re getting too comfortable.”

The butler stopped.

“You’ve been with this family for years. You should know better than to question my son’s choice.”

She glanced at me.

“Do you think we didn’t look into Sophie?”

The butler’s face tightened.

“We did. And we found nothing wrong with her.”

“She came from an ordinary family. She married the wrong man.”

“That’s it.”

Mrs. Foster’s voice hardened. “She works hard. She treats people well. She doesn’t chase money.”

“That’s exactly the kind of woman I want for my son.”

The butler’s jaw tightened.

“But your son could marry my daughter.”

“She has a degree from a top university overseas. She has never even dated anyone. She has loved Mr. Foster for years.”

Mrs. Foster stared at him. Then she laughed.

“Oh. So that’s what this is about.”

The butler went pale.

“I thought you were worried about Ethan.”

Her eyes narrowed.

“Turns out you were just trying to get your daughter into this family. You’ve been doing all this for her?”

The butler said nothing.

I looked at him.

The cold looks. The little comments. The warnings.

It finally made sense.
