You Mocked Me I’m The One You Fear Chapter 15
The next time I heard about Ethan and Vanessa was one evening when my roommate texted me.
“Maya, have you seen the newest campus post?”
I opened it.
Cyber Team had just issued a formal statement. Vanessa was permanently removed from the competition roster for fabricating messages, spreading malicious anonymous accusations, and damaging team integrity.
The large security firm that had offered her a summer internship withdrew the offer that same day.
According to comments under the post, she and Ethan had gotten into a loud argument outside the engineering building that afternoon.
At first, they had kept their voices down.
Then they stopped trying.
Someone nearby heard Ethan say, eyes red, “You kept telling me Maya didn’t know anything. You made me think she was just being unreasonable.”
Vanessa’s voice cut through the walkway.
“You’re blaming me? If you actually cared about her, why would anything I said have mattered? Don’t dump all of this on me now.”
“If you hadn’t kept inserting yourself between us, I never would’ve—”
“You couldn’t tell who your own girlfriend was, and that’s somehow my fault?”
Ethan fell silent.
Vanessa didn’t.
“And you’re only sorry now because she’s G. If she were still the same Maya nobody noticed, would you be chasing her from class to class?”
The people around them went quiet.
Ethan stood there looking wrecked.
After a long time, he said only one thing.
“You’re right.”
No one in the comments tried to defend either of them after that.
A few days later, Ethan withdrew from the race for next year’s Cyber Team captaincy.
Vanessa’s disciplinary case became part of her official university record.
The reputation, connections, and offer she’d been most proud of since arriving at Westbridge disappeared one by one.
I didn’t message either of them.
That night, I listened to music like I always did.
The same ambient track on repeat.
Sunlight filtered through the blinds while the music flowed into my ears like water.
I closed my eyes and thought of my grandfather.
“Keep your blade sheathed.”
For years, I thought he meant I should hide what I could do forever.
Later, I understood.
He only wanted me to stop drawing the blade for someone else’s applause—or because of someone else’s contempt.
When it came out of the sheath should always be my decision.
So this time,
I wasn’t disappearing again.
