You Mocked Me I’m The One You Fear Chapter 14

When Ethan got back to his dorm, his roommates didn’t spare him.

“Maya treated you like gold and you spent half your time gaming and ignoring her messages. Now she’s G and suddenly you’re chasing her everywhere. You don’t see how ridiculous that is?”

“Forget Maya. What normal person would take you back after that?”

Another roommate shook his head.

“If I were you, I’d leave her alone before you make this worse.”

Ethan didn’t argue.

He sat in his chair the rest of the night and barely spoke.

The next day, Dean Carter called him in.

He was blunt.

“Ethan, Maya has made it clear she does not want you waiting outside her classrooms or residence hall. If it happens again, Student Conduct will handle it through the harassment complaint process.”

Ethan stared at the floor.

Dean Carter sighed.

“I’m not interested in judging your relationship. I’m telling you where the boundary is. Once she said no, you should have stopped.”

“Dean, I wasn’t trying to cause problems,” Ethan said, throat dry. “I just wanted to make it up to her.”

“Wanting to make amends is your issue. It does not obligate her to give you an opportunity to do it. She has her own research, competitions, and life. Respect her decision.”

He paused.

“Some relationships end. Let them end.”

Those words hit Ethan harder than anything his roommates had said.

That evening, he came to see me one last time.

I stood outside my dorm and didn’t avoid him.

“Maya.”

His voice was rough.

“I’m sorry. I know I wasn’t a good boyfriend. And I know anything I do now is probably too late.”

I looked at him.

“For a long time, I thought if I stayed quiet enough, if I was understanding enough, eventually you’d see me.”

His eyes reddened.

“Then I realized you did see me. You just never bothered to pay attention.”

I let out a soft breath.

“Now you want to look because the spotlight is on me.”

His mouth opened, but no words came.

“I don’t hate you, Ethan. I don’t even blame you anymore.”

My voice stayed calm.

“I just genuinely don’t want you in my life.”

He went still.

After a long time, he nodded.

“Okay.”

After that, Ethan really did stop coming around.

Sometimes I saw him across campus. He would pause at a distance, wait until I’d passed, then lower his head and keep walking.
