Too Late He Wanted Me Back Chapter 05
Today had been the most agonizing day of Seraphina’s life. Her son was gone, and no one grieved more deeply than she did. Despite her broken leg, she had dragged herself there to say one last goodbye, only to be chased out of the room by the Canyer family.
They hit her with sticks and threw stones at her, treating her with cruel indifference.
A stone hit Seraphina in the forehead, making her bleed. Someone snatched her cane away and used it to hit her. She collapsed to the ground, her face and body covered in blood.
“Stop it right now!” Jaylen rushed forward to protect Seraphina. “Have you all lost your minds? Tino’s death was an accident. Sera had nothing to do with it. If anyone touches Sera again, they’ll have to answer to me!”
His sharp gaze terrified the crowd. As the head of the Canyer family, no one dared to cross him, and the onlookers quickly backed away.
Jaylen’s expression softened a little. He picked Seraphina up and carried her upstairs, then grabbed a first aid kit to clean her wounds himself.
But there was no gratitude in Seraphina’s eyes. She stared at Jaylen coldly. “Jaylen, Cyenne was the one who took Tino surfing. Why did your mother say that I killed our son?”
Jaylen’s hand froze as he held the gauze. He looked away, his voice awkward. “Sera, you know Cyenne’s situation is difficult. She was raised as a daughter here, but she isn’t actually a Canyer. The rest of the family already dislikes her. If they find out she’s the reason Tino died, she’ll be kicked out for sure.
“But you’re different. You’re my wife. As long as I’m protecting you, no one will dare mistreat you. Please, just take the blame for her this once. In return, I’ll transfer half of the company’s shares to your name as compensation.”
After he finished, Jaylen looked at Seraphina with visible unease.
He expected her to explode in a rage, to cry and ask why he was choosing Cyenne over her.
Instead, Seraphina’s calm face filled him with dread. She didn’t make a scene. She only gave him a faint, indifferent look. “Do whatever you want. I don’t care anymore.”
She had agreed without any protest. Jaylen should have felt relieved, but his heart felt heavy and unsettled.
“Sera, don’t get the wrong idea. What I feel for Cyenne is just sibling affection,” Jaylen explained. “We grew up together. I’ve always seen her as my sister. When the truth came out that she was switched at birth, she lost everything. The whole Canyer family turned their backs on her. I can’t just abandon her too.”
“I understand,” Seraphina murmured, her eyes lowered. “You don’t need to explain yourself to me.”
She knew that only people who still cared felt the need for explanations.
Since she didn’t love him anymore, his reasons didn’t matter.
Even if he slept with Cyenne right in front of her, she wouldn’t bother to ask a single question.
Jaylen grew more restless. He was about to speak when a maid burst in, looking frantic. “Mr. Canyer, something terrible just happened! Cyenne came to pay her respects to Mr. Santino, but she ran into Ms. Canyer. They’ve started fighting!”
Francesca Canyer was the biological daughter of the Canyer family.
Before returning to the Canyer family, Francesca had lived a life worse than death. She had even been molested by her adoptive father. Because of this, she hated Cyenne with every fiber of her being. Whenever they met, Francesca would lash out, hitting and tormenting her without mercy.
In contrast, Cyenne never fought back. She would only kneel on the ground and play the helpless victim.
The moment Jaylen heard Cyenne and Francesca were fighting, he panicked. He set down the gauze and said quickly, “Sera, finish cleaning your wounds yourself. I have to go downstairs, or Francesca will tear the house apart.”
With that, he hurried away without hesitation.
Seraphina felt a wave of bitter amusement. Francesca was his real sister, yet he never pitied the years she had spent being beaten and abused by her foster father. Instead, he obsessed over every fake tear shed by Cyenne.
Downstairs, Jaylen stood his ground against the rest of the family to protect Cyenne.
Francesca was sobbing so loudly that her cries reached Seraphina’s room. “Jaylen, I’m your real sister. Why do you never stand by me? Why do you always take Cyenne’s side?
“You’ve always been this cruel, even to Sera. That manipulative woman has framed Sera over and over, yet you ignore it all. That’s why she’s given up on you completely. Haven’t you noticed how she avoids you now? She’s seen who you really are, and she doesn’t have any hope left for you.”
