Too Late He Wanted Me Back Chapter 11
Jaylen had thought that with one leg broken, Seraphina could not have gone far.
And she had only been missing for one night, so if he sent more people to look for her, they would definitely find her soon.
But reality gave Jaylen a vicious slap in the face.
Because very soon, one of his subordinates reported to him, “Mr. Canyer, according to the surveillance footage at the hospital entrance, Mrs. Canyer left the hospital at around 1 a.m. last night. She hailed a cab, and the cameras caught that cab’s license plate number. We have already contacted the taxi driver based on the plate number.”
“The driver said that last night, Mrs. Canyer asked him to take her to…”
At this point, the subordinate suddenly fell silent. He cautiously raised his head and looked at Jaylen with obvious nervousness.
Jaylen’s stern brows drew down. “Why did you stop talking? Where did that driver take Sera?”
The subordinate immediately lowered his head again and answered haltingly, “…They… they went to the courthouse.”
Jaylen slammed the table and shot to his feet. “What? The courthouse?!”
Things were becoming more and more unbelievable.
Why on earth would Seraphina go to the courthouse for no reason?
Could it be that she wanted to divorce him?
At the mere thought of that possibility, Jaylen’s face darkened. Without the slightest hesitation, he immediately ordered, “Get the car ready. We’re going to the courthouse!”
The car sped all the way there and soon arrived at the courthouse.
As it happened, just as Jaylen stormed toward the courthouse in a fury, a courthouse staff member was about to head out to mail him his divorce certificate.
The two ran into each other at the entrance, and the staff member’s eyes lit up as he quickly called out to Jaylen.
“Jaylen? You’re Jaylen, the president of the Canyer Group, right? I’ve seen you on TV,” the staff member said. “You came at the perfect time. I was just about to go out and mail your divorce certificate to you, but now that you’re here, I don’t have to mail it.”
As he spoke, the staff member handed the folder in his hand to Jaylen.
“What divorce certificate?” Jaylen grabbed the staff member by the collar and demanded furiously, “I’m not divorced! Sera and I have a great relationship. There’s no way we would ever get divorced!”
At a place like the courthouse, all sorts of oddballs came in to get divorce certificates. Some sat on the floor and cried on the spot, some couples started fighting right there in the courthouse, and some even pulled out a knife in the main hall and stabbed their ex-wife…
So the courthouse staff were all seasoned veterans who had seen it all. Faced with Jaylen’s sudden outburst, the staff member did not show the slightest panic. Very experienced, he said, “Mr. Canyer, please calm down first. I actually understand how you feel right now. If you have any objections regarding the divorce, you can file a complaint at that window over there…”
While speaking, the staff member kept signaling to the security guards with his eyes. The guards caught the hint and immediately approached Jaylen silently, carrying batons.
But Jaylen had come with his own men. When they saw the security guards approaching with batons, Jaylen’s subordinates stepped forward as well.
The atmosphere instantly became tense, and just as it looked like a fight was about to break out, Jaylen suddenly tore open the folder and pulled out the divorce certificate that belonged to him.
Then he froze in place.
How could this be? It really was the divorce certificate for him and Seraphina!
But he had never agreed to a divorce. He had not signed the divorce agreement either… Wait, a month ago, Seraphina really had asked him to sign a document.
At the time, Cyenne had been sick, and his mind had been occupied with worrying about her, so he had not looked closely at the document. Seraphina had told him it was paperwork for a confidential NASA project that required a spouse’s signature, and without thinking much about it, he had signed it.
Could it be that what he signed back then was not a confidentiality document at all, but a divorce agreement?
