I Was The Perfect Queen But He Forgot My Name Chapter 23
I had no interest in the profiles.
What was the real difference? Whoever I chose, I would most likely leave Cedar Ridge and be placed into another pack’s power structure, managing social obligations, resources, and endless interpersonal games.
I leaned against my mother’s shoulder and, for once, acted spoiled.
“Can’t I just stay with you and Father forever?”
She took it as a reluctance to face love again after being hurt, and she didn’t press me.
Not long after my mother left, Owen came to the estate alone.
The first thing he said was, “I came on my own. Don’t let Julian know.”
Then he handed Tessa a box.
Inside was the coat Iris had worn.
“After the gala, Julian told me to deal with it. I remembered you made this, so I brought it back.”
Tessa rolled her eyes.
I looked toward the secure fire basin beside the fireplace.
“It’s cold. It’ll make good kindling.”
Tessa immediately tossed the coat into the flames, which surged at once.
By the time Owen tried to stop her, it was too late. He could only watch as a hundred-thousand-dollar coat turned to ash.
After a long hesitation, he lowered his voice.
“Julian’s headaches have been getting worse. A few nights ago, in the middle of the night, he suddenly asked me if he’d ever given you a harp.”
“No one told him. The memories are coming back on their own.”
