I Was The Perfect Queen But He Forgot My Name Chapter 01

He said he would marry me. He said he would make me his queen.

But then he fell from Lorne Gorge, lost his memory, and was rescued by a village girl.

When he returned, he stood in the rain outside the royal castle for three days, demanding to break our engagement so he could marry her instead.

The Alpha King was furious. He summoned me to the council chamber and asked what I wanted.

I straightened my back, fighting to keep the tears from falling.

“Do as Prince Julian wishes.”

……

In the Kingdom of Edland, the preparations for my wedding to Prince Julian were in their final stages.

Every day, my etiquette tutor, Mrs. Hart, kept me sequestered in the Cedar Ridge pack’s private estate in the capital. She watched me as I finished the final row of gold embroidery on my wedding gown, and if I so much as lifted my head to glance at a sparrow outside the floor-to-ceiling windows, she would remind me to focus.

“Genevieve, what could possibly be so interesting about a bird? The royal white eagle in your hands is what the entire kingdom will be watching on the live broadcast.”

I lowered my eyes to the skirt.

The eagle’s outstretched wings were magnificent, sharp. I had spent more than half a year embroidering them, and at last, they were nearly complete.

The flawless gown was a mirror of the person I used to be.

I am Genevieve Carver, daughter of the Alpha of the Cedar Ridge pack. My father, Thomas, also serves as the chief councilor of the Royal Council, and my grandfather once presided over the Royal Academy. Cedar Ridge controls the kingdom’s western grain supply and holds two council votes. From the day I was born, I was raised to be the most important link between my pack and the crown.

Languages, music, history, finance, combat, riding, and public speaking—I was expected to excel in all of them.

But whenever I thought of Julian, the training never seemed too difficult.

We had known each other since childhood, though our political engagement wasn’t formally signed until after my eighteenth birthday. The marriage would secure Cedar Ridge’s public support for the royal succession, but I had always believed there was more between us than a simple agreement.

Julian Fraser was the only son publicly raised by Alpha King Arthur and Luna Queen Evelyn, and the first heir to the throne. Gentle, restrained, and brilliant, he was trusted by packs in every territory.

He was the perfect heir. I was the perfect future queen.

No one in the kingdom could have imagined that our engagement would shatter just before the wedding.

The day I finished the last stitch, Mrs. Hart rushed in, her face pale.

Julian’s convoy had been ambushed while he was inspecting hydraulic works in the Lorne River disaster area. He had fallen from the gorge into the rapids below and had been missing for twenty-four hours.

My hand jolted, and the needle pierced my fingertip.

A single drop of blood fell onto the white eagle’s wing.
