I Was The Perfect Queen But He Forgot My Name Chapter 03

He asked who I was, yet he called her Iris with such intimacy.

The difference was stark.

The girl turned. Her name was Iris Bell. She had a pair of clear, light-brown eyes and an innocent prettiness.

The moment she learned who I was, she lowered her head, her expression falling.

“So you have a fiancée. I’ll step outside, then.”

She handed the cup to me and turned to leave, but Julian caught her wrist.

He took the cup from my hand, drained it in one swallow, and gave her a reassuring smile. When he turned back to me, all that remained was polite distance.

“Miss Carver, I lost my memory when I fell into the gorge. Iris found me by the riverbank. She and her father are simple Healers from the Willow Creek pack.”

Then he said, word by word, “I love her. She is the only mate I will ever choose.”

“Your name, our engagement… I only learned of these things after I returned. Since I’ve forgotten the past, there’s no reason for this engagement to continue.”

My throat tightened. I managed a stiff goodbye.

As I walked out of the medical wing, my heel caught and I stumbled, but I righted myself instantly.

I found Owen and had him give me a full report of the search.

Julian had been carried downstream by the rapids. His silver wounds had suppressed his healing and his ability to shift. Iris found him while gathering herbs and dragged him back to her home. Her father believed the head injury might have caused memory loss.

When the guard arrived, Julian had insisted on bringing Iris back to the capital with him, and he refused to let any other Healer give him his medicine.

When Owen finished, he lowered his eyes, his guilt palpable.

My heart grew colder with every word.
